Folks,
What are your opinions on removing the CATs. I’m not subject to emission inspection and could get away with making them go away.
1. What are the Pros/Cons?
2. How much additional HP could I expect?
3. Additional sound?
Thanking you in advance.
I did it on my c-5 . I dougth i gain much in horse power. The
sound did get a little louder. I woudn't do it again. The smell can
get all over you .You can't leave car running in garage anymore,
smell get in house.
I would buy a louder exhaust next time.
You shouldn't leave the car running in the garage ever. Not even for a second. Remember Carbon Monoxide is odorless and tasteless.
Roll the car outside, close the garage door, then start it up, that is the only way.
WOW - I'm amazed anyone would run their vehicle in a closed garage. WOW. This is how many commit suicide - think about that before you do it next time.

Under your name, it says you are in Virginia - you must have the car registered out of state then, because even if you kept the car titled down in the Tidewater area, you would still need a VA State inspection yearly - Cat's are looked for

i never leave car running with the door closed.
but even with doors open and tail of car sticking out
that smell get every where.the smell even gets inside
the car when you are driving or stop in traffic.

You shouldn't even do that, get the car completely out and close the door. I have a C0 detector in my living room and kitchen, I started the car in the garage, got out for a second, got back in, pulled out. When I went inside, both detectors were showing C0 in my house.
took mine off my C5, definitely got a boost in hp, dynoed 20 more at wheels after doing this alone(with a blower and headers). However since I'm not drag racing much anymore and doing more road work, I wouldn't do it again. The dirt that comes out makes it hard to keep those tail pipes clean and even the rear of the car above the pipes gets very dirty. I agress with getting a louder exhaust next time.
I've done it before. Performance gains are negligible and the smell is horrible! It's not just a bad odor; it stings the nose like trying to breathe over a bottle of concrete cleaner (hydrochloric acid).

Opinion = Its the first thing a redneck does to his car.
Pros = None
Cons = Loss of backpressure, low end torque, your car is designed/programmed to have them on. Unless you have a real good reason to remove them, dont bother, they dont hurt HP on a lightly modded car anyway.
Additional HP = little to none, at the cost of low RPM torque.
Sound = A little more agressive, but geez, what is this a 72 Nova?
Youre welcome.
