Default Are burnouts harmful...

Sorry never had a car capable of the burnout that a c6 could produce. so i was just wondering if burnouts are harmful to the car (besides tires obviously) Does it hurt the car in any mechanical way. Also does the amount of time you hold the burnout have an effect on the car. Sorry havent done too many burnouts just wondering.

just to your wallet...for tires.

Depending on how you're doing it, you could wear a clutch faster...and slight wear on transmission. You'd never noticed unless you do this all the time...

Its a lot easier on the hardware if you drive smoothly out of the burnout instead of chopping the throttle. The sudden hookup is what hurts.

Agree, a smooth burnout is good for the soul. Years ago I won a burn out contest at the route 66 contest with a 57 chev buisness coupe with a line lock on it (this holds the front brakes on while releasing the rear ones) I don't recall exactly what the time was but I think it was less than 5 minutes. I went from new tires to steel cords hitting inside the fender well and the ZZZ-350 boiled over because of the rev's and not moving. I have worired about drive shaft and transaxle breakage with my many burnouts in other vehicles, but it never happened to me. I do think it is related to not having the tires hook up to hard (with slicks) or dropping the clutch too suddenly with your R's up. No problem with these tires, they seem to light up pretty easy, not much sound and rapid side ways action. Oh Yeah!! Enjoy.

FIND A SAFE PLACE WITH ROOM TO PLAY!

Disengage TC/AH completely, left foot on brake pedal firmly, right foot on gas, bring R's up against brake 2500 to 3000 should do. Once into the powerband release the brake pedal, hit the gas and hold the F#ck on.

Modulate throttle level, steer as straight as possible, expensive black stripes will appear magically behind you.

Bring Money for tires!

Only to you if you don't do them. Come on, this is a sports car with 400 HP. Why would you want to only drive it like you had a Yugo.

Okay, let's put it this way...would you have bought your C6 if only moments before you saw someone else (the dealer's prep guy or salesman) during a "burnout" with it? ..I rest my case...

Harmful to the treadlife, that's for sure, but man I love the smell. Kinda like something I tried in the 80's, $50.00 a sniff.

I haven't done it before, but curious how to do that exactly without
line-lock (I mean the one smoking with the car standing still. Not the one circling around with smoke)?
Hope not to be locked.

well if you have an auto the way i understand it is to disable all the traction control/active handling then hold the brake with your left foot and use your right to bring the revs to about 1500rpms. Then gun it as you let your foot off the brake using the break peddle to keep you in the same place since the front brakes are better than the rear this isnt a problem.
Now with a manual it seems to me you can just pop the clutch while gasing it but im not sure. Maybe do a heel toe to hold the brake as you left of the clutch with your left foot and press the gas with the toe of your right foot.

More experienced? correct me if im wrong or a little off or whatever.

Your correct of course. The forum member asking the question has an A4 equipped C6.

Driving a manual definitely takes a huge amount of skill beyond driving an Auto. That skill can only be learned for each individuals' vehicle. The same principles will apply of course, but each car will demand different inputs to master to reach the limit.

In a MN6 I would still disengage TC/AH fully. If you are in some sort of speed contest you want all the available power at your fingertips don't you?

The bottom line is probably if you do not currently know how to do a burnout in your C6 MN6 you should sign up for a driving class so you can learn the limits of your car and learn how to handle it correctly.

Trying to learn on the street is not very wise. You can go to a local strip and do it legally but the guard rails at the tracks damage cars just as badly as things you will hit on the street.
