Because they are uninformed. Much like "Old Wives Tales", these myths continue into the 21st Century. A person can change their oil every 100 miles and they won't get anymore life out the engine than I will by chaning my oil according to the DIC, at 0% on the oil life monitor.

You can do what you want and it is your money but, those that justify the reason as cheap insurance and such, are just plain wrong. Do some research and make an educated decision.

Interesting comments, tongue in cheek perhaps but not so far from the truth. Was upset when after 2 days of having the car, heard loud clicking noises coming from the steering wheel(mentioned this previously in anothet thread). The dealer tells me to drop it off(I'm 45 mins away from them and another 20 mins from work) and I said no way, you get someone to pick it up and chk it out. Young kid turns up to collect the car and when he returns it some 4 hours later or so, tell me that it was a "supposed" broken airbag coil which they didn't have the spare part to fix it, but it doesn't make the noise now?????? So what does this mean, my airbag is now faulty or what? He told me they would let me know when they could fit me in for fixing it..still waiting to hear from them some 4 days later!! Anyway, the point of this conversation is that I had averaged about 21 mpg from new and when the kid returned the car it and I was going home, the reading said 12mpg and the tires were squeeking slightly..I was livid and reckon he had a burn up. I am biding my time and see what happens and if I don't get a call soon, will create merry hell.

As this thread is about oil, is your warrenty voided by not having the oil change done at the dealers? If I only do say 400 miles whithin the next few months, when should I have my first service as it doesn't make it clear at all in the Manual and lastly what oil do you guys use? Oh and one other point. Noticed the pressures(from brand new) were 32 each on front and 32 and 36 back. Commented to the kid about this and he told me his head honcho said this was normal? Could you pls clarify what normal actually is.
Thanks very much.

Use the factory fill oil Mobil One so they don't void the warranty or any other oil that meets the same specs ..you have to look those numbers up to see if that oil meets Cheverolet requirements.
You have to abide by the stipulations of your basic and extended warranty how does that affect when you do your own oil changes and maintenance. Will they not recognize this if you aren't a certified mechanic and void the warranty?

I don't know of any synthetic oil that doesn't meet GM's specs. And no you won't void a warranty by doing your own oil changes. Just keep receipts for the oil and filters. Keep a good record of what you did, when you did it and at what mileage.

or a Chevrolet Dealership did the work when they sign in on your maintenance log and warranty book?
I have heard of this keeping your receipts so that would be for oil & filter, Mileage, date, but should you do it yourself and in this case it is easy to do ...will they authorize it since some of us are not mechanics. Knowing how these places want to get anything on you so the warranty is voided. This is for the GM basic warranty and the GMPP Extended warranty.
I was told that I have to bring the car in everytime just to get that authorized signature of approval from a recognized mechanic but somehow I just can't believe that???

You are correct for not believing this because it simply isn't true. They do not void our warranty for changing our own oil.

Unless, you didn't tighten the oil pan bolt, it come off and the engine blew up do to lack of oil.
