The computer calculates oil life based on several engine and driving parameters, so mileage between oil changes will differ from person to person. Although, if your superstitious or obsessive-compulsive, feel free to change your oil as frequently as you want.
What is the oil drain plug size on the 2005 C-6? 13 mm?
Does the C-6 come with a magnetic oil drain plug from the factory? if not is it a good idea to get one?
I don't want to cause any magnetic fields around all of these computers and sensors. I don't want no trouble
Also I heard old school at the first break in do oil change or the first 1,000 miles but on our cars break in is at 500 miles
My coupe will definitely not see 1100 w/o a change. I plan to change @ 500 miles and then between 50-25% of life according to the monitor or 3 months, whichever is more frequent. If they recommend you break it in, I recommend you swap it out!
We ran a poll on the Gen Board last week. Check it out.
Every car I bought new, I changed the oil before 1,000 mi then every 3-4k after that. I’m sure you’ll get 100 different answers here. I changed at 4,000 with the DIC showing 68% remaining. Projecting out the DIC Oil Change function, I’ll be able to go 11-14k between changes. For your first change, I recommend 2-4,000. Whatever you feel comfortable doing. Much sooner and you’ll extend the period for your rings etc. to seat properly (the real break-in period). Go longer and you’ll impart unnecessary wear. For the first 1,000 mi or so, an engine cranks out some metal. You can see a sheen in your oil when you first change it. Just the material for a change is $40 ($5/qt x 6, and $10 for a filter). As for GM, they’d just say follow your DIC. I’ve done that many times and it’s got me in trouble.
I did mine at about 750 miles. I'm sure you can go until the factory recomendations with no problems (look at the millions of people who do). But cars are my passion, so I change the oil more often than needed just because it makes me feel good.

Main concern is with the basic and extended warranties when you change the oil yourself can they pull that void the warranty proproganda on you?
Or the person who changes the oil has to be certified mechanic? Otherwise everyone would be sending their cars in for oil and filter changes.
I looked under the C-6 and to me it looks like an easy change as the access is easy as my dealer charges $100.00 for that very same change.
Too late mate, I'm dumping at 100, 500, then every 3K. Oil is cheap, engines are not.
This is a very uninformed statement. GM's oil life monitoring system is very good, they spent a lot of time finally making something right. Changing the oil every 3k miles is a waste of good oil and is not cheap insurance. Today's oils and engines are much better than those from the 60's, so let go of the old standards. If you must change something every 3k miles, change the oil filter.
I'm changing mine next monday, that's 3 months.I have 2300 miles, after that its every 3 months or 3k miles.Gm gave me a 2 year 24k miles customer care policy after I b!tched about picking my car up from the dealer with a blown speaker. That means oil and lube every 3 months or 3k miles ,thats their recommendation for a corvette.Oh yeah also includes free tire rotation.

Good you got something back for the bad speaker. I don't believe their recomendations is a valid one, and you don't need to worry about the lube or tire rotation, your C6 tires are not interchangable and are unidirctional (18"x8.5" front and 19"x10" rear). I would trust the oil monitoring system in the car or once a year as recommended in the owner's manual.
This is my first Vette. Reading the suggestions about when to change my oil. My head is spinning! Mine's at 2100 mi and at 80%. Ive already poured a quart in because the DIC asked to too. The first 2 oil changes are free for me ( I was the Dealers first 6 speed Z51 sale) Change it, not change it? I was going to was gonna wait for DIC to tell me too, but now some of you....change it at 100 miles!
Half the time we are supposed to believe that Dave Hill and his people are geniuses that can walk on water when they are not designing, building and testing our beloved Corvette.
The other half of the time we are supposed to believe that Dave Hill and his people are idiots who don't know enough to put proper maintenance recommendations in the owners manual.

why would some suggest to change oil first 500 or 1000... is there some reason?
And costs alot less than when they do it so you save time and money and don't have to leave the car there all day for them to listen to your stereo or smoke and eat lunch in your Corvette or go for a sunday ride.
