You just re-stated essentially everything I did, along the lines of efficiency, and keeping costs down. What was the point of that?

There's some speculation along those lines, I believe Popular Mechanics mentioned it, and claimed to have "sources". The only fact here is that nobody knows for sure, but I wondered how you all would feel about it.

How about a twin-turbo v8 with direct injection

I live in SoCal near the port where all BMW's come to this side of the country and there is a 7 series Bimmer running an internal combustion V-8 burning hydrogen...looks and sounds like a normal V-8.
Why are all the tree huggers trying to wimp down our cars into 4 and 6 bangers or the ridiculous electric "skateboards"? Our engines will run on clean burning fuel... Our gasoline engines will run on anything that burns....even hydrogen and the end result will be water. We can have muscle cars and loud pipes! On MythBusters they ran an '80's Oldsmobile on hydrogen with no modifications...but we're trapped between the oil companies and the birkenstock wearing tree huggers that want us to drive a Prius or a golf cart (whoops same thing)....are you kidding me? Okay...I'm off my soap box. We can drive real cars AND pretend to save the planet.
Three things I want you to think about;
1) The polar ice caps are melting on Mars and there isn't a Suburban for miles
2) The Earth has been warming since the ice-age.
3) Greenland isn't green...but it was a few thousand years ago when it was named...in other words...we're in a cycle

I dont think it will be hard to get used to. Until then, corvette will have a simple V8 (either NA or SC) rightfully so.

Supercharging is awesome. no pipes everywhere to take up space and weight (as in turbo). Its the more simple approach to FI.
The battery technology is almost there? Since when? Batteries are heavy devices with very low energy density compared to gasoline. They really have no business being the primary energy source in a sports car. A few bonzai runs, and those things are deader than a doornail. Sure, they may have limited use for energy recovery to bring up mileage, but not for the primary energy source.

Gasoline 45 MJ/kg
Lithium Ion Battery 0.7 MJ/kg

Gasoline 34 MJ/L
Lithium Ion Battery 1.5 MJ/L
