Default C7 Exhaust

Can we stop obssessing about the C7 tail lights for a minute to discuss something more important like the C7's exhaust.

Will the C7 continue with the bi-mode exhaust aka NPP, or move on to something else, and what could that something else be?

I have never warmed to sound of the bi-mode exhaust after hearing many such equipped cars at HSDE's, to include my 07 Z06. They sounded raspy at very high RPM's with no real character, however I loved my Borla Stingers on my 06 LS2 coupe though.

So what will the C7 have?

Let the games begin.

Abefroman's thread asking the same question beat yours by two minutes.

NPP has been a very good seller, why would they change?

From the latest spy shots, it looks to have the NPP as there appears to be the butterfly operating mechanisim on the outer tips located at 5 o'clock on the passenger side and at 7 0'clock on the drivers side.

Exhausts are highly personal & what may ring one person's bell, may have the opposite effect on someone else. Nice to have so many choices on our beloved vettes. I have a Corsa sport on my 06 C6/A6 & the NPP on my 10 6spd manual GS. Both are great exhausts, but if I had to choose, I would take the NPP. I hope they have a version of the NPP available when I order my C7.

'Exhaust improved, dual note exhaust'

Also interesting to note the two different style tips on the test cars:

the second pic is from the winter pics a year ago. it was in a primitive stage of R&D. Don't expect anything like that on the car. The first pic is more of a pre-production model. expect that.

It's a $1200 option that's quite popular; I'll be shocked if C7 doesn't have something similar.

I'm sure the aftermarket will continue to provide alternatives for those who don't like the base model or the factory option.

Every time a new generation Corvette is introduced there is a big emphasis on price/value. Once again we can expect a surprisingly reasonable base price. The big profit will be in the options and the NPP option has been a real sucess that way. And there will always be a few Corvette buyers who actually want a quiet car .

Car manufacturers need to meet Federal "exhaust noise limit standards, including an idle noise level limits and a drive-by limits."
The dual note exhaust gives them the ability to meet the standards, yet for all of us to enjoy a louder exhaust when we totally step on it. Doubtful that Federal standard will change.

As noted above, exhaust preferences are very personal and after we buy our Corvettes many of us choose to get an exhaust different from factory.

However, also as noted above, that doesn't preclude the Corvette from improving the sound quality of the factory exhaust (both standard and dual note). Viper's 2013 version has an improved exhaust tone over previous Vipers, and as keeks noted, it is expected that the C7 exhaust will similarly have a much improved factory exhaust sound(s).

Sound is one thing -- looks are also important. When they went with semi-rectangular lights on the C4 V2, they made the exhaust tips rectangular. Looked really good to me.

I hope that none of the tips we've seen are the final ones -- if in fact the tail lights are trapezoidal vs. round(ish). Frankly, I would bet that is a surprise they have up their sleeves...

Nah...odd-shaped stylized tips are interesting on a Chrysler Crossfire or a performance sedan, but the C7 will stick with round tips for a traditional performance look.

I will say this, I am NOT a fan of the trend toward factory enclosed exhaust as in these examples...

...and, of course, this...

DISCLAIMER: To the OP, the z06 originally did catch some flack because despite a 7.0 turning 7 grand, there wasn't much authority to it, hence the new version exhaust on. the 11+ models.

That being said, if you think the zr1 and 11+ z06 lack character or authority at wide open throttle, check your pants, something may be missing...

I still believe the R8 inspired the rear fascia of the C7 . Recently the owner of the Chevy dealer said the rear of the C7 looked like the Lexus LFA.

So you did not like the post-1990 C4's?

Actually I did think the 1992-1996 rectangular tips went well with that car's rear styling, better than the quad squared tips used on 1990-1991 ZR1s. (1991s that weren't ZR1s used 4 round tips). I liked the tips on my yellow 1993 vert so well that I made billet aluminum megaphones for it in a similar shape but bigger. A bit loud with no mufflers but they looked great. After the unexciting quad oval tips on non-Z C5s, Corvette designers treated all C6s to beautifully finished double wall polished stainless round tips (probably inspired by the systems by B&B etc they'd see on many guys' C5s at the Birthday Bash every April).

Many current cars have wide styled tips on their regular models but quad round tips on the high performance model. I suppose that would be possible for the C7 but I'm expecting all C7s to have 4 big round ones like we've seen.
