You are right, the GT500 runs on 285s. To each his own, but that's not what I want.

The 5.5L is basically confirmed. GM is really no longer being pushed for 5.7L+ larger motors. The new 2014 GMC Yukon/Chevy Tahoe will also have a smaller V8 (probably the same 5.5L as the vette), if you need more evidence...

But... there is 0 evidence. In fact quite the opposite. Do you know where the 5.5 rumors came from? Because that's the current race motor. A motor that has restrictions. It's a de-stroked ls7 block I believe, with probably nothing else close to stock. If it could have been a balanced 5.8, that's probably what they would have chose.

Not only that, but ls7 and ls3 vettes return almost identical mpg. Displacement and hp is easily counter balanced by taller gearing in 6th(or 7th), it just happens they are identically geared. I mean, trying to be apples to apples here, I think I'm being on the safe side saying a 6.2 with direct injection would return 28mpg highway. An improvement, so why shrink if they don't have to?

Corvettes have sold with or with out the 427. The C7 will sell without it.

As far as the designation “LS7” is concerned I agree with you. However, to say there will never be another 427 is in my opinion more than just being a little presumptuous.

There is nothing wrong with the short block from the “LS7” and there's no reason to suspect that if GM does resurrect the 427 for the Corvette that it will not be the same short block used in the “LS7”.

It was the LS7 valve-train geometry that needed to be done away with, and with top end from the LS 9 matched with the LS7 bottom end that would work well, and at the same time produce the magic 427 number without having to tool up for newly designed parts

I think certain people *cough* LS7 owners *cough* would actually prefer that a 427 is never again produced. In their minds at least, that would make their engine an instant classic.

Until sales start to slip with the C7. Or maybe the last year of the C7 Chevy will announce this will be the last year the 427 will be offered.

How so and where? And any more evidence? You didn't provide any. It's all conjecture at this point, but most signs point to 6.2L remaining, with versions of the Gen V also having 5.3L displacement, likely as a "base v8" truck engine to slot between the 6 cyl and the 6.2L

A "427" of some kind is a part of Corvette history and the LS7 proves it. Some version of a "427" will come again. GM just needs to put it into a CONVERTIBLE C7 sooner rather than later!!

When asked at this year's Corvettes at Carlisle event, GM reps said this was the last year for the 427 - if you want a new one, 2013 is it. I am keeping my '10 Z06.

Believe what you want, but I believe what they said. There are a number of good reasons why I believe them:

1. C7 debuts a new generation small block, which will at least have DI. Lot's of bucks needed to produce an LS7 version of the new gen, which GM, still extremely cash strapped (still $15 billion worth of our money in debt), will not be predisposed to do.

2. I think everyone knows that the near term future brings increased govt restrictions re emissions, CAFE requirements. They must downsize displacements while introducing new features such as DI to meet the new regs while keeping the base power at least equivalent to current LS3 specs plus a bit more for PR purposes.

3. Big power for the Z versions will be S/C and/or turboed, no more N/A big displacement motors except for some very limited production cars such as the new Viper. No more selling thousands and thousands of big engined models ala C6 Z06s.

Just IMHO of course, but consider the logic.

Well, as a former owner of an LS7/Z06, if the LS7 comes in the C7 as the base engine, I won't be buying one. To many issues starting to crop up in the LS7. Now, assuming the 5.5 or 5.1 is the base engine, then I would be interested.

If viper can get away still with a big displacement then no reason why the corvette can't

The Viper is a much lower volume car. Dodge doesn't have to worry about Vipers bringing down its fleet economy average.
