You pay more for the engine package, and it costs more to maintain and fix. The multi-cam engines also get bigger and make more noise that has to be addressed. Trade-offs, of course.
I am actually really impressed with the LS2-LS7 engines and how far performance and economy have gotten using today's computing power to properly adjust the fuel/air, etc. They may not be anything to brag about around the table, but then again, we can let the car speak for itself on the strip/track.
I really don't think there is much to knock the "base" LS2/LS3 engines on. Price? Performance? Economy? Size? Reliability?
But then tell someone you have a pushrod v8 and see what their facial expression is. Priceless.
