Im from Tennessee and btw far from a liberal, but I had an interesting run in with a trailer park the other day. We listed a go cart on craigslist. A guy came here, straight from work, to look at the go cart for his kid. He wasnt in a truck, so I agreed to follow him and deliver it. It was a nice day so my wife and I thought a ride with our 3 year old would be nice. We followed him to a trailer park. It was only 5-7 miles from our home and I have to tell you that it was really sad place. The park sat in a rural area, on several small rolling hills. It had dirt roads and the delapidated trailers were very close together to each other. There was junk all over the place. The guys trailer had a baby high chair on the front porch.

There were several little kids out playing and one was riding around on a mini bike. My 3 year old son, who has a 300 square foot room with a walk in closet and 8' french doors that provide access onto his wrought iron balcony, looked stunned. He had never saw anything like it. It was odd how quite he was as he looked around.

Anyway, it was an eye opening experience for us. A lot of our poor rural people are completely forgotten.
Great post.

It never ceases to amaze me a how much hate liberals have for fellow Americans. They get all rattled when someone says something that is not politically correct about one of the groups they pretend to protect. Yet they trash poor people from the south or other parts of the country whom they believe are beneath them, and dismiss fellow Americans as trash.

What I learned from you post was the guy cared for his child enough to spend what little money has has for something his child will enjoy.

You know folks, I really think it is time to focus on our country instead of on rigid political party lines.

Neither party is doing a good job. This has been true for a long time, certainly before Reagan.

There are certain fundamental facts that can't be argued.

The Democrats are generally too focused on a liberal agenda and serving a small base of voters that take more than they give. They aggressively seek to pay for the education and medical costs of people that simply shouldn't be here. If you go to France, you learn the language and integrate into their society, you don't demand their society change to accommodate your inability to speak the language and earn a living.

The Republicans are generally too focused on anything that isn't liberal. They preach that if it isn't liberal it must be good for America. They couldn't be more wrong. The average Republican believes that the global conservative economic powers remotely care about their long term viability. Again, they couldn't be more wrong.

At the end of WWII, the USA owned and controlled 55% of all global shipping. Today the USA owns and controls less than 2% of all global shipping.

Today, 1% of Americans own and control 30% of America's assets and wealth. The Republican Party is committed to serving the 1%. As GW Bush said, "You are my base!"

When will the Republican faithful get worried about these realities? When the 1% own 40%? 50%? By then it will be too late to recover this country short of revolution.

Economic powers like Romney's Bain Capital ship jobs overseas and invest their money overseas and Republicans cheer such behaviors. Again, couldn't be more wrong.

GW Bush and his cronies sought to globalize the US airlines and move them offshore out of the US to eliminate the power of US unions. In so doing they would have done the same thing they did to US shipping ... gone, never to return.

Eisenhower said that the greatest threat this country faces is the domination and control by the military industrial complex. He was right.

Until those in each party begin to properly criticize the excesses of each political party instead of rapidly defending one party philosophy, it's only going to get worse.

Good post. And why I like Rocky Anderson.

I actually think both sides go to the extremes on purpose to stop anyone from considering third party candidates. If they were not so extreme people might think I don't like either so I will vote third party. But with them being extreme, most people may not like either but vote against their extreme opposite, instead of for what they like, thinking I may not like the candidate in the (pick you poison Dem/Rep) party but I can't let the other guy win. This keeps the two parties in power and excludes all others.

Frankly, I'm just sick of it all...I get inundated everywhere else with this propaganda (including endless calls) and I don't come to CF to hear more.

I just want the talk over and the action to happen. I don't care who you vote for, just vote and let's move on!

First off, before I type all this (because I know it's going to be long as this just pissed me off), I want to apologize for being completely off topic and hijacking the thread. At the end of the thread, I'll go back to the original topic point! So if you want to just skip to the Corvette stuff, scroll all the way down.

I agree... And making fun of him was part of the point. I was being facetious more than anything. The point was that it was a low-rent comment he made and that Corvette owners are held to a different standard. (Part of what many people think we're douche bags.)

What bothered me was the blanket statement about California and Liberals... I'll break it down below.

It never ceases to amaze me how blind someone can be to their own party's BS, but can comment on everything the other party says or does as if it's the beginning of the end.

Let me explain my comment and why you're blind...

Here's the quote I commented on:

Now... Lets break this down:

"Conservations evolve" <--- The very definition of conservative is to retain the standards and practices already set. So this first sentence is a contradiction of terms. Right off the bat I knew the rest of the post was going to be awful. I was right. Moving on...

"The whole country recognizes California as an extreme left wing state full of fruits and nuts so there must be some truth in it." <--- A multifaceted blanket statement saying:

1) America as a whole feels that Californians are "fruits" and "nuts".
There's nothing true about this. First off, the RED states may think this, but not all the states. And considering that there are more people in the blue states than the red states, I'd say it's less likely that the MAJORITY of the country believes this.

2) "Fruits" and "Nuts" <--- I can't tell if he's saying we're farmers or that we're gay and/or crazy, but we have to at least be one or the other. Considering that California doesn't do as much farming as the midwest, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he's being a bigot and has a problem with gay people. I'm also going to guess that he feels that if you're not gay, you must be crazy. So in essence everyone must be hated if they're in California.

3) "so there must be some truth in it." <--- The idea that if lots of people believe it, it must be true. That's why the world is flat! (oh wait...) All things considering, when someone says something like "the whole country believes" right before stating some BS fact they pulled out of their ***, I'm not likely to believe what they're about to say because I know that the likelihood of them doing real statistical surveys is near no chance at all. At that point, I'm also less likely to respect them or give any real thought to any subsequent comments as they're likely more BS.

And finally he closes with a back-handed compliment:
"I will admit it is a beautiful state as far as it's geography goes."

This coming from the guy that lives in the cow-tipping capital of the world. I could easily have made far worse jokes, but I kept it some-what clean.

Now I may live in California, but calling me a Liberal without actually asking me if I'm a Liberal is kind of cheeky. You assume, just as Monterey did, that Californians are all Liberals. Ironic because there are actually more Conservatives here in Southern Cali than Liberals.

Now... Let me break down what YOU said: (this should be fun)

This is the biggest joke of all. It's like Conservatives are the actual etch a sketch. First we want to be socialists by giving away health care, food stamps, and welfare (sounds like we love our fellow Americans). But then we hate all our fellow Americans for <insert reasoning here>.

I've always found it funny that if I make fun of a conservative, no matter what reason I did it for or what I said, it becomes a political comment. Now note that my comment had NOTHING political in it. I called him low-class because of his blanket statement. YET, I'm an "American hating Liberal" because I made fun of a conservative.

I made fun of Anne Coulter because she said on TV "We need to stop bombing Egypt" even though we weren't, and all of my conservative friends jumped down my throat for making fun a conservative (even though I make fun of liberals too). But they instantly made sure to make the point that the only reason I said it was because I hate conservatives. Yes, I obviously hate conservatives because I made fun of her absolutely stupid comment. I also made fun of her for saying that we spend more on medicare in one year than we spent on the entire Bush wars. Of course, I was yelled at again by conservatives for making fun of conservatives.

Hmmm... I guess since conservatives apparently can't defend themselves, they group together to fight the forces of fact and reason.

The other thing that pisses me off about this comment is that there is a TON of hate coming from the Tea Party. While mud is slang from all parties, only one party has stood out as the absolute most anti-American and racist party... The Tea Party. The non-stop racist signs about Obama. Documentaries about the south even show that people won't vote for Obama because he's black. The "birther" ordeal. And so on... Nothing is more anti-American than intolerance.

Let me say that again, "NOTHING is more ANTI-AMERICAN than INTOLERANCE".

Yet you say that Liberals, the ones that are for a black president, the ones that fought for civil rights, the ones that brought you medicare and social security, the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell", workplace safety laws, pell grants, earned income tax credit, bank deposit insurance, liberals... OF ALL F***ING PEOPLE are the ones that hate America?

Did you make your sign that says "NoBama" yet?

Geezus you're delusional. (But of course, because I said that I'm going to be called anti-American. And because I made fun of YOU, I must hate ALL Americans... right? Is that how it works?)

Moving on...

Lets face it... I have to be careful of who I make fun of because if by chance I make fun of a conservative, I'm going to have YOU and all your conservative buddies (who have some sort of built in "I'm getting picked on, it must be a Liberal" alert) coming after me calling me anti-American.

And finally, let me just say that me looking down on someone or thinking I'm better than them isn't a valid point for anything. If someone makes signs that say:

I'm allowed to think I'm better... At least a LITTLE bit better. At least I spell things correctly when I'm protesting.

I'm no English scholar, but at least 99% of my grammar and spelling is correct. I take a little more pride it what I do I guess.

Now, yes, I know there are TONS of signs from both sides with misspellings and incorrect grammar, but the fact remains that there are far more from the Tea Party. Can we agree that it's either laziness or stupidity that the Tea Party has so many protest sign mistakes?

I'm done with that.

On to Corvette stuff...

So I like this new Corvette styling. The Jalopnik version IS it and I've liked it from the get-go. The one the OP posted isn't bad either, and I do like it, but I think it's too subtle. I definitely like Jalopniks more.

I like the rendering of the OP's post and thought I would go to the end of the thread and post a comment, at least concerning someone's bashing of the Camaro (I had two Gen 5s), but reading the last page posts this, I've decided thread is worthless and not worthy of the read. I'm pretty sure there's a section of CF for these kinds of comments.

Great post...but you're wasting your breath. These guys are hardcore conservatives, part of the extreme right of the party. They don't recognize anyone different than them as real Americans. Especially, liberals. Liberals to them are the enemy. It's getting to a point in this country that you don't mention you are a liberal. Because one of these crazy conservative nutcases will follow you home a kill you. One thing they all have in common is: they DESPISE California and they blame Obama for ALL of their problems. All of them. And if you ever want to see what Im talking about, go post your political opinion in PRC. That's the clusterfu*k political section of this website. That's where the mods tell people to go for political talk. But it's not politics that are discussed there, it's just extreme right wing circle jerking and hand holding mixed with racist comments. Carver Electrics is a fine example of this fringe crazy thinking. Arguing with him is akin to explaining Calculus to a 5 year old. Good luck.

As far as the OPs Corvette picture and the Jalopnik rendering, the OPs Vette I believe is considered to be the "base" model and the Jalopnik rendering is considered to be the "ZR1" upgraded model so well likely see both.

I saw your trailer comment and it made me want to share our recent experience. My post really wasn't about you. I just glanced at your first post and I actually thought you were a conservative that was offended because someone implied that everyone in CA is a liberal. I stated that I wasnt a liberal in my post, mistakenly, to build common ground.

I disagree with democrats and republicans on many things but, in the interest of full disclosure, I often consider hardline liberals to be very unreasonable and self rightous. I think that many are invested in unrealistic ideas.

The bad part is that the (strong conservative)poster that you are so angry with recognized you for who you are, when i didn't. I clearly understand that you were being facetious, as the poster doesnt likely live in a trailer park, but you seem to fail to comprehend that your comment was at the expense of those that do live in a trailer park. This wouldn't be so outrageous if you didn't go on a rant about "intolerance"! Obviously, the word is nothing more than a convenient weapon at your disposal, hypocrit.

You continue to try to insult his state by calling it the cow tipping capital. Thanks for not making it worse, but in this context, that's bad enough. Why do you have to insult him by offending other people. It seems that you find using these southern stereotypes to be the most insulting thing you can do to someone. Well, youre right. It is insulting.... To the people from the south! Do you understand that there are "big cities" in Ohio? I live in a real "cow tipping" state, Tennessee and I live in a small rural town.

Here are some demographics from my town:
There were 3,624 housing units at an average density of 286.6/sq mi (110.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.95% White, 0.36% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.23% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.87% of the population.

We have a beautiful mountain view, we hear cows moo at night, and I actually play the banjo.

From all of this, a big city feller like you can tell, from 2,500 miles away, that my 3 year old son and I are intolerant redneck trash. It wouldn't even matter if I moved him out now. You can take the trash out of the trailer park, but............ To bad for my trashy little boy.

Since you like statistics, here are a few.We average 16.2 students per teacher. Our crime rate is pleanty below half of LA's but I wont even list the exact numbers since LA likely manipulates their UCR #'s to look lower than they are, like many large cities.

Here are some more numbers:

EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT OF ADULT
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES 81.62%
COLLEGE GRADUATES 19.28%
MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME $40,896
PER CAPITA INCOME $18,064
INDIVIDUALS BELOW POVERTY LEVEL
4.20%
------------------

EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT OF ADULTS
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES 66.64%
COLLEGE GRADUATES 25.51%
MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME $36,687
PER CAPITA INCOME $20,671
INDIVIDUALS BELOW POVERTY LEVEL
22.11%

Obviously LA is superior, because 25% have graduated college, right? The income numbers are really powerful if you understand the difference in the cost of living, and the higher number of people in your city that have very high income.

As far as your comments about people not voting for Obama because he's black, how do you think that compares to the number of people that vote for him because he's black? Who cares? This is just another attempt for you to falsely illustrate your superiority over southern states. Maybe some won't vote for him because he's balck AND he's a democrat. Alot of people that wouldn't vore for Obama would have voted for Herman Cain, but what's the relevance?

I think that you need to take a long look at the prejudices that you possess. Saying that you're a good person doesnt make you one.

You're absolutely right. Even I didn't realize I was doing exactly the same thing I was ranting about. I do apologize for that. It's true that where I'm from we use "trailer park" as a derogatory term. Just as we used "gay" and other variants as insults. I have actually stopped doing that and I give my friends snake eyes when they do the same. Personally this is the first time I've used "trailer park" in a great many years. Not out of tolerance, I admit, but out of lack of need. But simply from this one post of yours, that will be in the back of my head from now on.

The truth is that my mother is from Ohio and she used to tell me all about the cow-tipping thing. I didn't think that's a real insult. I was thinking it was just a witty comment to describe where he was. Not quite sure how it COULD be an insult, to be honest. But I don't consider cow-tipping a Southern stereotype. In fact, when I think of the South, cows don't exactly come to mind. Ohio is certainly not a Southern state... In fact, I wasn't aware Tennessee is considered a Southern state as well.

Hey, that's cool. Nothing wrong with that. I know people here that play the banjo too. And it's not really giving into any real stereotypes unless you're sitting on a porch on the Bijou or something. And no, that wasn't another insult or joke. Just making a point.

From all of this, a big city feller like you can tell, from 2,500 miles away, that my 3 year old son and I are intolerant redneck trash. It wouldn't even matter if I moved him out now. You can take the trash out of the trailer park, but............ To bad for my trashy little boy.

Whoa now... Hold on there. I didn't say that. What I said about intolerance is that the poster was intolerant because he was making fun of gay people and calling everyone in Cali gay or crazy. I didn't once say that just because you're in a southern state or a conservative you MUST be intolerant. And more specifically, I DID say that the the most intolerance and anti-American rhetoric comes from the Tea Party (which is totally undeniable).

Since you like statistics, here are a few.We average 16.2 students per teacher. Our crime rate is pleanty below half of LA's but I wont even list the exact numbers since LA likely manipulates their UCR #'s to look lower than they are, like many large cities.

Actually, surprisingly, Los Angeles' crime rate has significantly dropped over the last 8-10 years. Things were indeed pretty bad, but not anymore. There's a few small trouble spots, but the county invested highly into areas that would have normally been a no-fly-zone for people like myself. There has been a large amount of rebuilding and improvement as far as the buildings, streets and technology goes. They've also added a lot of police and public service. The city has been paying a lot of attention to those that felt they weren't even seen on the map. Because of this, crime has really plummeted.

Here are some more numbers:

You didn't label these. I don't know what these are for.

Hey, look, this tells a story, but not necessarily the right one. I get that your point is that the less population you have, the less crime and better education you can get. I won't argue against that. Los Angeles County is one of the most densely populated counties in the country. Our education system is in disarray and it's definitely not the president's fault. It's California's. I graduated from high school in 2001. Less than 50% of my senior class graduated. It was genuinely sad. A class of over 1000 students! But one thing that I noticed (only because I was lucky enough to have parents that cared a lot) was that the students the graduated were students that had help from their parents after school. Students that were pushed by their parents. Some of my friends that didn't graduate on stage with the rest of us confirmed this for me. Truth is that it wasn't necessarily the education system that failed us, it was the parents... After school hours, are the teachers supposed to help every one of their 300-400 students? No... There's only so much time in the day as well. There's no excuse for the parents not to be involved.

It's totally different... Lets put it this way, up until Obama, black people NEVER had the ability to vote for a black man to be president. Now the opportunity comes up and they want to see it happen. Black people want to prove to the world it's not only possible but they can do a good job too. Of course there are some black people out there that would vote for him solely on skin color, and there were certainly a hand-full of voters that admitted that, but maybe that's not racist and maybe they're not saying they wouldn't vote for McCain because he's white. They simply never had an option before. BUT I will say that statistically the majority of racist remarks about a "black president" stem from the Southern states. That's not me trying to be superior. That's me stating that the racist comments are hardly coming from California. If that make YOU feel that California is superior, that's one thing. But don't start projecting that discontent on to me. One thing you can be sure of is that Liberals, in general, aren't racists. I know a few people that aren't happy that their people (the conservatives) have made every attempt to show their ignorance and backward ways. (Not my words!)

I think that you need to take a long look at the prejudices that you possess. Saying that you're a good person doesnt make you one.

The truth is that my prejudices are against ignorant people. There's nothing I can do about that. I've had girlfriends tell me I didn't have any patience for bigots and racists. So when I see or hear bigoted comments I often times snap back with a harsh comment. I know that's lowering myself to their level, but deep down I think that it's possible that turning the tables on them will help them see. Unfortunately it has NEVER worked. And logically it never would. But I keep on truckin' along. However, you're absolutely right that in doing so, I manage to insult others and make myself look like a intolerant person as well... Kind of counterintuitive. I'll have to put a filter on that brain to keyboard thing.
