Someone who has recently seen the C7 (not mule) from distance looking at it head on, said it's like looking at Ferrari F12 (mostly the lights and the hood formation) coming at you. He said it looks more European than a Corvette (again from looking straight at it).
Here is F12:
If this speculation did not include a 6.2L DOHC I would be more apt to run with it. Justin brought up the point that a DOHC motor could weigh more and I feel GM would have downsized the motor displacement if they were going DOHC .
Pretty snappy wish list. If 25% of what is written is true, I will be shocked. That said, if 50% of what is written is true (especially the performance part), we certainly won't have anymore "Camaro rear lights" threads. Count me in as a non-believer, but will be very pleased to be wrong.
On one hand I will give GM a lot of credit for hiding so much so well. I have studied those test mule camo cars under a magnifying glass and it is almost impossible to see any of the finished product.
$60-$70K? Does that imply you're speculating that the base price will be ~20% more expensive than that of the outgoing model? It would be a little disappointing if that were true...

Hunh. Shows how artistic tastes can differ. The car itself may look great overall and have spectacular performance and specs. But that particular head-on picture makes me laugh dismissively. It looks like a Pixar villain... A caricature cartoon face from one of the Cars animated films.

I don't see how anyone could logically/reasonably believe that a domestic brand name vehicle could go from $49k to almost $60k in just one single model year, that simply doesn't happen. The base MSRP will be over $50k+, that's for sure, but I just can't see the car starting at any more than $52k or $53k during it's first full year on sale.

I very much believe the base C7 will at least match if not beat the current ZO6.
Ya but I doubt it would beat the zr1...come on...that wd **** off so many ppl who bough one for over 100k only to be smoked a couple years later by the cheaply vette stock...I say they won't top 500...mayb just shy490?? I would like to see a dual clutch...give me a good reason to get one in a few years. But I'll definitely wait til after the markup goes away lol

that pic looks like what a Miata owner would buy - after he comes out of the closet.
But, that's why soooo many people here know to reserve judgement until they can see a car with their own eyes.
Pics, renditions, or an actual photo (oh my... wouldn't that be nice) just don't cut it.

If the starting performance envelope begins much higher, it's perfectly reasonable. If even the base model has the top of the line version's body, and wheels, and the same displacement and design engine, it's more than acceptable.
Ultimately, if the car turns faster lap times than a current Z06 for only $70K, it is a higher value product than the outgoing product any way you slice it.
For me personally it would be huge because I want a minimum of Z06 performance and new that is out of my budget. So if Chevy is going to release a Z06, I'd have no choice but to wait until I could buy a nice used C7 Z06 and I don't want to wait that long.
Back seats, improved mpg, lighter weight, 7 speed manual, etc are all big pluses to me.

If there is one thing I have learned about the Corvette team is they could care less about pissing off last years customers.
Don't know why it couldn't have back seats? Keep in mind it has a fixed "window" back there from what we can tell.
It's also high time GM moved on from push rods...
Let's face it, this car really should beat the outgoing C6 Z06. That's how it works with new cars. If it comes out with about the same HP as today's car that'll be lame as all hell.
The recent spy photos of the new engine had a supercharger on top just like the ZR1 and the heads were too small for dohc. Plus, this engine will be in the new full size trucks/suvs and I don't think they are to have dohc engines like Ford. Just saw a post where the genV will be introduced 10/24/12 so we will see soon.
