"Thanks to broad use of carbon fiber, magnesium and aluminum, the 'Vette will weigh about 10 percent less."

10% reduction in weight ehhhhh 2900 lbs would be amazing but I am skeptical.

2900 divided by 465 = 6.24 ( you're living in a dream world)
2900 divided by 450 = 6.44 (to low a weight but okay on horsepower)
3000 divided by 450 = 6.66(realistic weight and horsepower)

3175 divided by 505 = 6.29 (actual Z06 weight and horsepower)
3355 divided by 505 = 6.64 (actual weight and horsepower of 427 convertible)
3208 divided by 436 = 7.36 (actual C6 weight and horsepower)

If we can only talk about GM confirmed data there is not going to be a hell of alot to talk about. the artical linked by the OP states "about a10% weight reduction". 2013 C6 weighs 3208 - 10% = about 2888.

The standard/base 2014 Corvette will NOT weigh only 2888 pounds.
Not even 2950 pounds.
Now, is 3040 - 3090 pounds possible?
Yes.
