They were definitely on point! If I'm not mistaken didn't they say this was the c7 in zr1 form when they posted it? I might be wrong but I believe I did read that somewhere.

I feel like the sketch definitely got the basics, but didn't get the essence. The proportions of the much-maligned tail lights was all off, and made them look horrible in the drawing. But seeing them in photographs, they look AMAZING!

Hey, it goes to show you that sometimes you may have the facts straight, you just can't capture the soul in drawings...

Jalopnik got it right no question about it.

Many of us were just hoping they were wrong. While the new car does look much better than I expected from their rendering, I'm convinced that there were several other designs and renderings posted here over the year that looked so much better and I can only imagine how much cooler the car could have been.

The new car is nice though. Not as plain looking as the base c6. They messed up the rear end though which was probably the think I liked the most about the C6.

Sorry, crazy busy show. I agree with most of what's been said here. Yes, there are some proportions we didn't quite capture. See the car in person, it looks amazing

Also thanks to BlueOx, Keeks, and the rest for keeping the story going and interesting overall these months. Of course, our drawing was the ZR1. We still have more things to be correct about.

It was a lot of fun and very interesting.
So Matt, tell us how the reveal/car looked to you?

In hindsight, it would be surprising if C7 images didn't leak before the reveal. With hundreds of GM & supplier employees having access, someone was gonna let it out. The only question was, which C7 drawings were real, and which ones were a hoax.

Like C7 or not, once we saw the Omega Tool leak, all doubt was gone. It was clear Jalopnik nailed it.

Congrat's to Jalopnik for a huge automotive scoop, they showed us a new Corvette 14 months before the official reveal. Very cool.

Cheers,
JB

It's a hit. GM is still shellshocked enough to be a conservative company (see Silverado), so this is as wild a change as they're capable of making and that's exactly what they need to do at this point in history.

Inside it looks great and moves the brand forward. Can't wait to drive it.

And no matter how sure I was we had it I still felt nervous until it debuted.

Car and driver sketches were closer to properly representing the c7 as it would appear.

JMO and I've never been that impressed with jalopnik overall so there is some bias. I prefer autoBlog as an Internet news source

It is dead on accurate to the car. Even down to that silly hole under
the rear window. To Jalopnik

They did a great job on it, and there are plenty of people eating crow about it this week.

I'm impressed with how little it changed in the 14 months between that reveal and the NAIAS.

After so much fussing over their pictures and so many months of talking about it and denying it I was surprised not to see a thread about it!

Personally I always felt that they had seen the real car and what they were giving us was an accurate depiction of what we could expect from the C7.

I say "Good work" to Jalopnik for bringing us the C7 so much sooner than anyone else (November of 2011!!!...my god how quickly time passes).

Just for reference, this is what Jalopnik brought to us over a year ago...

this photo would have been the actual car.

Is there rendition perfect? No but I'd sure say they nailed it. Probably impossible to completely capture the essence of the design by memory after seeing a prototype. But considering this was over a year in advance, I'd score them at least a 9.5 out of 10.

So - are those of us who said we didn't like it based on the Jalopnik sketches and thus got accused of "premature criticsm" now vindicated?

I actually didn't like their rendition, but the thing I didn't like was it looked to boxy or square. The real deal is more rounded and made all the difference.

Knowing what the Stingray looks like, the Nov 2011 Jalopnik rendering must have shown the future "ZR1" type model , which we see here will have an extended carbon fiber front splitter , extra rear brake cooling ducts in location as first seen on C5 Z06 , taller hood and a large square badge on the side vs the small stingray logo. Looks like rear fender widths will be the same, as the base Stingray has more of a wide body look to begin with vs the base C6.
