There hasn't been much of an emphasis on the auto so far with the intro of the C7. I feel this is mainly because of the fact that the much talked about A8 is not yet ready for prime time. When it is ready don't be surprised to see lots of talk in regards to it.

The 7 seed shows something else that is new and displays how the New car is improved..

That is the only reason as chevy tries to get the message across.

The 6 speed automatic is excellent as well and will be quicker off the line than most even those who drive a manual transmission vette.

Don't sweat your Choice as the a6 is an excellent option It's not the choice I would make for myself yet I certainly respect those that choose it.

I know the automatic is quicker off the line than me.

I do want a dual clutch transmission in the next sports car I buy yet I might when the time comes replace my ls3 c6 z51 m6 with either the 7 or 8 speed after I test drive both.

Buy what suits YOU best.

Hope this helps as the 6 speed will be awesome as well

This is true, but since I don't have a manual to learn with at home I don't want to buy a C7 and hope that I end up liking the manual I've never tried. I feel safer with an auto that I know I'll like.

Learn on a rental car, preferably something japanese* then

And when you bring it back if you left the car severely wounded if they ask just say it was that way when you got it

*so if you tear it up you won't feel nearly as bad afterwards.

Why not test drive some used cars with manual trannys, or rent one, to learn ? It's not hard...just be patient.

I live in a crowded city and a manual is a bitch to drive in traffic. It's far more fun to drive though. You get to interact with the car more, just like u do when riding a motorcycle. I personally wouldn't mind an auto with paddle shift

I was going to get the A8 because I know that is great and very DCT like. Putting old A6 in C7 makes me lean towards manual or to buy a last gen car(manual) and change to C7 when A8 arrives. Most people that speak bad about automatics have not driven DCT or other properly fast automatic with shift paddles. It is not the automatic part which interest me, but that you can have both hands on wheel on track and it shifts faster than manual.
Manual is fun but I think good DCT/Aisin is good compromise if you do both track and city driving.

Speaking from my own experience, I prefer an auto for the coupe and a manual for Z06 and ZR1. You should learn how to drive a manual. You'll understand why after you learn it. It's nice to have control of the car that way. It's so nice to be able to manually downshift and zip by someone very quickly. It's also very fun.

I've owned six Corvettes with the latest (C5 AE vert) being an automatic. Two, and an impending third, back surgeries have forced the decision of an automatic for me. If there is a next Corvette in the picture for me my left leg ( read clutch) lets me know I would try for a paddle shift. In the meantime I'll take the Corvette experience anyway I can.

Even real Corvette from back in the day all had manuals...correct?.. Not quite. All indication is that my 56 left St Louis as a automatic(and would have one now if I could find a correct numbers matching powerglide for it.

My 64 also left St Louis with an automatic, and it still retains the original powerglide along with the original power steering , original power brakes, original power windows, etc.

You should not be racing in the street and the last thing I'd want is to be near you when you do.

You've never driven over the speed limit?

Do you think every single driver in youtube videos racing on an straight empty road is being particularly unsafe?

I live in Canada which is much less population dense than the US and has a lot more open roadways.

Besides it's safer to drive an auto because you can keep both of your hands on the wheel

One advantage of the auto. You can't over rev the engine on a wrong gear downshift.

Funny enough, it would be easier to learn on the 'Vette since all of that engine torque would make it harder to stall out. I learned on a Dodge Dakota 5-speed, and after four hour sof herky-jerky driving the Corvette the next day was a relative cakewalk.

Or the C5 A4 shift **** in the '05 C6. The silver painted button didn't make it look any nicer.

The thing was awful.

I can drive a manual transmission and it is not all that great. I live in a high traffic area and having to constantly shift up and down blows.

Ignore those that claim a sports car should only be stick. They are just closed minded fools. Get the car the way you want and you will love to drive it, regardless of the transmission.

I have done multi-hour stints in stick shift cars for races and it is over rated. The first few laps are fun, but once the laps start ticking off, it gets old fast. I would rather focus my attention on getting around the corner perfectly and not getting taken out by another driver than worry about heel toe maneuvers.
