although this idea has been beaten down for generations, I actually feel like GM is marketing in this direction with the Corvette "Stingray". As usual, the name Chevrolet is no where on the car and there are no bowties on the car, except the little one in the crossed flags.... but in all the coverage I've seen of the C7, every official has called it just the 2014 Corvette Stingray...or "the Stingray. Similar to what Chrysler did with SRT and Viper.
As much as I've said it probably wouldn't happen, it just might be. I dont think it is leading to 4 doors or anything crazy, but simply versions of the Corvette. Much like Chrysler has done with Ram. base is "Stingray", next up is "Grand Sport", top of the line "Zora", something like that
Where's that guy that worked in marketing and got canned?
Anyone else notice the same branding symantics?
an example is right at the top of Corvette's facebook page:

As American made cars continue to decline in sales so will the Corvette market. In the past american auto makers had the majority of the car market and there was the Corvette an American Icon. Most of us grew up wishing that some day we could own a Corvette.
Today that is no longer the case. GM is very concerned that as the baby boomers age their niche market will go away. So GM has been looking to distance itself from the brand "Chevrolet" for some time.
I am not so sure that removing Chevy is going to help. Most of the younger generation know foreign cars much better than our Corvettes as their families own foreign cars.
The younger generation has found the funds to purchase BMW, MB, Audi, infiniti. Porsche and etc.... Until GM figures out how to get those individuals away from their foreign toys and purchase a Corvette.... it will be a tough sell for team Corvette.
I firmly believe that a material amount of Corvette sales come from Corvette owners wanting to upgrade. If I were a GM exec I would be really concerned about all the negativity on this forum. Too many individuals sound really "pissed" much more and more aggressive than in the past.

On the early 1953-1955's, "Chevrolet" was on the front fenders and from 1953 through 1960 "Chevrolet" was also in the nose and trunk emblems. I don't believe "Chevrolet" has appeared on any Corvette since then. There have been bowties on the crossflags for little longer.
There has been no grand conspiracy to distance Corvette for Chevrolet starting in 1961(when they removed "Chevrolet" from the emblems).

Wow...This is a spot-on analysis. Add in the fact that MANY people out there are still PO'd about the auto bailouts and I think the future of the Corvette, and all of GM for that matter, is cloudy at best, and the company has no one to blame but itself.
I really don't want a person buying a Corvette if he pulls into a dealership and can't read those huge letters on the front of the building that spell C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T and doesn't realize that those hundreds of cars and trucks on the lot are Chevrolet's.
Those type of people give intelligent people a bad name.

I hope not, but look at the Porsche; it has a 4-door version [Panamera] and an SUV [Cayenne].
That's a good thing. I hope GM keeps distancing the Corvette from Chevrolet.
That name does nothing or help the Corvette in any way. All it does is hurt its image. It's like Target selling Rolex watches, it just doesn't make sense.
The car is very special and it needs special marketing and give it its own name and let be sold only at your top level dealerships.

Honestly, that is the biggest piece of crap I have read today and I have read a lot of crap.
Haha ok if you say so. Why don't you enlighten me and tell me why.
I am proud my Vettes are Chevrolets, I have had some of the fastest, meanest, baddest, coolest cars ever built and they have been Chevrolets. The C7 Corvette is a continuation of great cars brought to us from Chevrolet.

That's your argument???
Well yes if you are let's say over 60 years old you might remember Chevrolet's glory days but I got new for you those days are long over.
The truth is that the Corvette is out of place within other Chevrolet cars!
Its the nature of marketing today to make whatever product you are trying to sell seem like the best of the best. This includes gimmiks, bending the truth, false assumptions etc....This goes for every company I can think of.
I think "corvette stingray" rolls of the tongue better anyways then the "Chevrolet corvette stingray". Ill need to dig up some c6 commercials to see if gm used the Chevy name in them but for me it doesnt matter if its semantics or not I don't expect much from any marketing campaign.
Too bad is not separate from Chevrolet when have to take it in (which is often). So
would not have to sit in Bubba and Aveo land. Want it upscale, get it out of the
chevy showroom and repair dept

Nothing new or covert going on. The car has never been labeled Chevrolet nor had the bowtie on it. GM isn't going to allow Cadillac and Chevrolet to lose their performance vehicles to build a Corvette line of cars. Just ain't gonna happen. And two models of the marque is not new either.
