Have you guys noticed that the vent through the hood is only for the top 1/3 of the rad and below sits a more traditional shroud with electric fans dumping hot air into the engine compartment?

No, I didn't. But I'm only looking at pics of the top of the engine compartment. Are you sure?
Yes and no. I saw the car in person, so I have an advantage. Tadge indicated today that the reason for having a portion of the air going through the hood, and over the car helps the aero significantly by dimishing the amount of air forced into the engine compartment and thus under the car. So it has a purpose - and of course, it is way more important in the race car (of course, the race car already has it!).
