That's nice, but with the painted panel I am OK with the black A-pillars. If you did this mock-up, could you show us what it would look like with the Aston treatment? I'm betting better than what we saw at the unveiling...
Really nice. Now show us with the roof panel off. Not so nice I am sure. Unless you want to do a window surround like a Miata which is cheap looking. The people at Corvette want that dark wrap around look from C pillar to C pillar. That have achieved that plus it looks great with the roof panel out. IMO.

That's where we must disagree! I know "...the people at Corvette want that dark wrap around look from C pillar to C pillar", but it just does not work (FOR ME) unless the entire targa panel is painted. I totally get that people have different feelings and sincerely see an identical physical attribute completely differently (witness the whole Camaro rear kerfluffle). But, I really think the C-pillars look awful when the top is out. Like flying buttresses without the cathedral. That, however, does not bother me nearly as much as the funky spear look, because 95% of the time the panel would be in. Let's face it, some version of the targa hoop look has now been around 8 years longer than the pop-ups, so I agree it had to go -- I just don't like how they executed it.
Anyway, that's why the poll. Sample size is as yet way too small, but wouldn't it be interesting if this styling decision, which has hardly been talked about compared to many threads about the rear, is actually more disliked than the butt which seems to get pretty consistent 65% or so approval?

Actually, Porsche's most recent "Targa" came up with a solution to your observation that I love, providing A to C-pillar continuity top on or top off, plus no doubt enhanced stiffness:
Roll down the side windows and you get 95% of the airyness of the current approach, particularly since the opening could be much bigger with a removeable panel.
I would love something like this for the C7, but with the top panel removeable rather than the cumbersome sliding panel approach. Solves all the spear problems!
Of course, it was not a success for Porsche, so there is that
Perfection would be just a little less meaty where the A-pillars meet the front fenders (get that by leaving a bit more of the back part black; can't redesign the A-pillars which are part of the frame structure).
WIsh I could change choice 2 to: "HurricaneRN CAN draw, and this is what the designers should have come up with."

Disappointing -- nearly 700 visits and only 45 votes. You would think more folks would press a button once they bothered looking in.
Interesting early results but way too small a sample to draw any conclusions...I wonder if any early Bennion supporters would change their vote after HurricaneRN improved on my lousy edit....
I think the coupe's A-pillars should be painted, and the convertible's should not.
The coupe's painted A-pillars will still visually connect with the C-pillars even when the roof is removed.
The present coupe's unpainted A-pillars make everything else you try to do with the roof look disjointed. The C-pillar is painted, the A-pillar should be painted.
I also think the middle of the removable roof panel should match the middle of the halo. Either both are painted or both are carbon fiber.

Like anything else its all about having the right tool. Yours took about 2 min each, the white took 5-10 cause I had to go find the image and trace a little more. Download photoshop elements trial and ill tell ya how to do it. I have zero artistic ability, so that's not a factor.
