Default First Time Corvette Owners

Just wondering if new Corvette owners wanted to share their reasons for buying. In my case I was upset when the first articles and pictures of the C7 came. I was already shopping for my retirement car and as a former owner of two Porsches, was looking at used 911s. Previously I had a Boxster S followed by a Cayman S so I was intending to pick up my first 911. I also had my eye on the Ferrari 328 or 348 but then the pictures of the C7 came out and I knew all my plans to get a nice used classic sports car went out the window. I couldn't believe the looks, lines and the interior of the new Corvette. There was never any debate or discussion, I had to have one. I say I was upset because my 12 months of looking, researching, evaluating and comparing several different makes and models (and the enjoyment of that process) was done. No more comparing etc, I was totally sold and couldn't believe the grip (1 g I believe) that car had on me. Now all I have to do is practice my wave

I am right here with you brother. I was already in the market for the "retirement" Ferrari I'd wanted all my adult life, after owning Porsches, BMWs, etc. Previous cars sold, cash in hand. The Corvette had never even turned my head. Then I saw the C7. Show-stopper in my mind. Now I get to keep half the money I had earmarked for the Ferrari for retirement, travel, aftermarket goodies, etc. AND I still get a level of performance that will rival anything I would have otherwise purchased.

Way to go Chevy. My dad was right many years ago.

I'm a fan of all cars... have owned many different brands over my life. GM really got the C7 right IMO and the value proposition was compelling enough that I decided I needed to own one. More performance than a C63, M3, 911 for much less money and finally an interior to go with it!

My first car was a 1963 Austin Healey 3000 picked it up for around $3,000 and was considering that too but at $50,000-$70,000 I couldn't get over the fact that I spent $3K on the first one. It's still a nice car with a great sound but the damn exhaust ran right next to the gas pedal and the little sucker would get ridiculously hot. Talk about heal/toe driving.

Couldn't go with either red, I loved both colors but to me those are Ferrari colors, just like British Racing Green (my AH color). But I do like the new Stingray in red. I choose Cyber Grey, guess I'm getting conservative at 63, now if I was 53....

I've never owned a sports car before, always had a compulsion for motorcycles. I'd poke my head in and around vettes and others sometimes but nothing I saw, that I thought I could afford anyway ever really turned my crank. I drove my brothers twin turbo Stealth a few years ago but was still not all that turned on by the thought of owning a sports car. I heard Corvette had a new stingray coming out and casually took a look at it and thought WOW! that is one good looking car! still didn't think too seriously about it, but it kept creeping into the back of my mind. Then a couple months ago a friend bought a new c6 z06 and I took it for a relatively lengthy drive. I had a ball with it but I wasn't impressed with the interior much at all, but my interest in the c7 was now beginning to grow fast. The more I saw and read about it the more I began to lust after it and decided I NEEDED one in a bad way! I plunked my $5000 deposit down on one and am #1 of 3 allocated to my dealer. it's going to be a long long wait.

Although I am not new to a Corvette ownership (see my signature) my last one was in 1974. Sold it a few years latter and went with Porsche with the old 914, 924 & 944.
Chevrolet/GM continue to build the same cookie cutter design of my C3 for all the other iterations of the newer models all the way to the C6. I have been waiting for a better design and the new C7 in my opinion, hits the design cues I was looking for on the Corvette.
I have a Solstice GXP that is my weekend toy, love the looks, performance of this no longer produce classic car.
Finally I saw the C7 in person and really like the new lines, plus all the other great refinements GM has added to it.
I will wait until I can drive one to make sure it meets all my expectations. I have already configured one in Crystal Red 2LT/Kalahari interior with the Z51/NPP/MRC, chrome wheels and suede inserts.
Looking forward to my test drive and hopefully a purchase.

Ive always wanted a sports car but , to be honest, was never really impressed with modern vettes until now. The C7 seems to be a truly well rounded sports car with looks, power, balance and overall performance AND I can afford it!

I am 56 and have owned a succession of muscle cars in my time. Mostly Camaro's. Mustang, 2 Buick Grand Nationals, and my latest, as you see in the pic, an 09 Challenger RT.

Was thinking of moving up to a Camaro ZL1, or possibly the Z28, but then saw the C7, saw the price, and in one day, decision made.

so Status 3000, Laguna Blue Z51, Kalahari Interior, Carbon Fiber roof etc

hope to see it in September.

Man, my story is way different than anyone else's!

I hail from the other side of the spectrum, and just turned 27.

My buddy back in college had (and still has) a '76 Stingray , and I always loved that car, but nothing in the C4-C6 generations ever caught my attention. I was always more of a Viper fan, and I'm a single guy with an excellent job, so I can pretty much do what I want. My current car is a heavily modified Saturn (don't laugh... I shock people all day with my baby sleeper), and I wanted a coupe to match. Everything I looked at or test drove never felt right, and by the time I'd put the mods into it to get it where I wanted I'd be paying as much as a Vette anyways.

So then the C7 comes out, and with the Stingray name again, and WOW my attention was hooked from the start! I think the succession in the Corvette line was an excellent one, despite some of the complaints about the taillights being too much like Camaro's (uhh... Chevy makes that one too... don't see the big deal?).

Arctic White, Z51, 2LT, Red interior, NPP, MSRC, Red calipers, black wheels. Can't wait!!

Default C7 Mystic

Thanks for sharing, there seems to be a common theme in that all of us make well thought out decisions and then go and buy a car we have never ridden in There is a mystic being generated by the C7. I wasn't around for other launches and wonder if the same thing happened then?

Based on a lot of the comments in this thread, I feel not only I made a good decision in buying a C7 but that GM did a fantastic job with the redesign and really hit the nail on the head as far as putting together a far more enticing product.

This will be my first ever Vette and only the second model that GM has made that I even like (C2 being the first). I am 32 (33 in August) so I'm technically a youngin' compared to most people on these forums so my desire for this particualr car is probably a bit different than the average Vette owner.

I currently drive a heavily modified Scion FR-S (300+WHP on 91, and 490WHP on E85), I do all my own work so it was a little project for me. Basically take a nice cheap, great handling car and give it some ***** and all the hardware to help that happen. It's a fun little car but the quality of the car leaves a bit to be desired...sure it's a steal at $24k but I want a bit nicer car for myself. So I decided that I would look in the $50k-$70k price range and see what my options were. The Cayman of course was a contender, then theres the Alfa Romeo 4C coming this fall, used GT-R's are available in this price range too. I even looked at the Mercedes C63 and Audi S5 (No BMW for me I boycotted those bastards a while ago.). Ultimately I wasn't extremely excited about any of these prospects. The C7 also wasn't an immediate lust inducer for me, but has grown into one over time and research. I guess the biggest selling point that got me hooked was the apparent focus on handling feel. This has always been a gripe of mine over the last couple generations of Vettes...I prefer a nimble chassis to brute force acceleration. Don't get me wrong, power is fun, but carving twisties and tracks is way more exhilarating...not to mention more rewarding.

I am looking forward to owning this car and eventually tinkering on it. For those that say I should just wait and buy the hopped up version that is destined to come out...sorry I prefer to work on my cars, I'm just as happy under the hood as I am in the driver's seat.

Cadillac is appealing to the upper class crowd ??. Corvette wants to appeal to the
Porsche crowd but keep the price lower to drawn in the lower class. They need to
make up there mind who they want to play with. The car should have been priced to
be more exclusive. Cadillac ups the price, Corvette keeps the price cheap
