Default Your First Corvette

I recently started a thread asking members to share their stories about why they decided to purchase the C7 and it was their first Corvette. I would like to thank those that did post and there were some great stories. I think opening this up to everyone would generate some great Corvette tails.

For those who wish to share, is there a story behind your first Corvette?

My story, abbreviated, is that my C7 (hopefully in Oct/Nov) represents my Retirement Ferrari (or 911) that I have dreamed about for the last 3 years . All my researching, evaluating, comparing, driving went out the door at the sight of the C7. The car's looks, lines and interior grabbed and never let go.

I was looking for American muscle for a pre-retirement ride and thought; no actually knew I wanted a Shelby GT500. Took it out for a test ride and was totally disappointed. Did not have the put you in your seat power I was expecting. Even thought I was getting to old for that feeling again.
Then took out and ended up buying this '07 C-6, what a beast compared to the Shelby. Then a friend of mine had a brand new '13 GS and thought I wanted to upgrade until I got in it and seen that the interior even though it was 6 years newer was just like mine.

Then the C-7 comes out and that was it. I now have one on order.

I'd driven F-body Camaros and Firebirds since college in 1974. Raised my two daughters and got them off on their own then it was my turn. First Vette was my '02 coupe then moved up to my '06 coupe last year.

My first was a base '72 4 speed. Bryar blue coupe with black interior. The MSRP was about $4,700. I traded in my '69 Nova SS with 65K miles. If I remember correctly, they allowed me $1300 for the Nova! Would love to have either of them back now!

I always liked Corvettes since I was a 6 or 7 years old. Back when I was ten my parent's friends took me for ride in their '79 Vette & that cemented my like for them. Finally when I was 30 I bought my 1st Vette ('93 6-spd coupe). It was okay but I hated how noisy the transmission was. It sounded like I was driving a dump truck or marbles rattling around in a tin can. I traded the C4 7 months later for a C5 ('97 auto coupe). I kept the C5 until Feb. '02 when I sold it.

Unfortunately, I haven't owned a Vette since then but not by choice. I missed out on the C6 generation entirely except for the 2 verts & 2 coupes I rented from Hertz for a week at a time during 2006 - 2009. I'm hoping that I'll have an opportunity to own a C7 (I like everything about it except the back end is a bit busy for my tastes but it will probably grow on me).

I honestly don't know. Like a lot of folks my cars where dictated by family and or more pressing financial issues, like kids. A Corvette never appealed to me and frankly the older models still don't. I appreciate their historical significance but a pre C5 to me road rough and was not a daily driver.

Sometime in the late 90s the C5 caught my eye. I decided I wanted a 2000 and that was my first. I customized it and 13 years flew by.

I traded it for a 13 GS and told the salesman I'd trade it for a C7 which I will in 14 or 15.

I could get stoned for this but my perspective has changed. It is just a car to me these days. Yes I enjoy it, baby it like most folks but to me to drive it every day is the goal.

Different strokes...........

I've grown up around Corvettes (dad was a Chevy executive) since I was "knee high to a grasshopper". Raising a family, putting 2 sons through college prevented me from owning one until I bought a new 98 C5. Have had a Corvette as my daily driver ever since.

Never owned a Chevy in my life. We were a Mopar family. Got a chance to drive a C5 a friend had got interested so I bought a high mileage C5 Z06 off E Bay back in 2006 for 21k. Drove it until it hit 130k miles and went back to Mopar and was just not satsified with the Challenger so I ended up getting a base C6 for my DD. Hard to explain to people that the car gets 30 mpg and is cheaper to insure than the Challenger was.

A 1966 Laguna Blue coupe with a matching numbers 327. The car had factory side pipes and of course was a 4 speed. I bought the car in 1980.

We always had at least one 'vette around while growing up. I used to wash them for my parents and help my Dad wax them. And of course... ride around in them. I remember sitting in the back of my Dad's 78 Pace Car! The days of no seat belts, LOL.

The deal my Dad made with me... keep my grades up and I get a 'vette. I did, and I got an Yellow 1987 Convertible when I was only 15. If memory serves it cost just under 13k at the time (well used). So yeah, I was the jack *** that drove a 'vette to high school

I sold that and got my Mom's 93 Red on Red auto, sold that and bought a different 93 coupe (quasar blue / 6 speed) for college. Sold that my Sr. year at FSU and bought a 96 LT4 Collector...

Sold that and had kids.
Just bought my long time dream, a mid year, and soon will be buying my Dad's 98 Pace Car from him so he can make room for his C7. Kiddies are out of car seats so we can have fun again. Just took both my kids on their first real ride in the Vette to a father's day car show (took my daughter there and son home). You can barely see my son, mini me, sitting next to me from outside the car. Hopefully these two vettes will go to my son and daughter!

I bought a 1963 split window 340hp red on black coupe in 1983 or 84
I was 22 or 23.
Four years later I traded it in for a ......... 1986.
Talk about regrets.
I never should have done that.
I still remember the serial number by heart...30837S110872

My first Corvette was a Nassau Blue, White top and Black interior, 1966 Convertible. It was a 327/350 HP, CR 4 speed with 3:70 rear. Had some other nice options such as power windows, telescopic teakwood steering wheel, power antenna and leather seats. Bought this car when I was 18 years old in January of 1972 for $2100. It was an all original 21,000 mile car. I couldn't afford to buy one like that today!

My first Vette was a 1966 Milano Maroon coupe which I took delivery of in September, 1965 (I was 19). 18 months later I traded it in on British Racing Green 1968 convertible, pilot job (first one in the city, Pittsburgh). The '68's build quality was a disaster (wipers hitting each other, heater would not shut off, headlights would not go up, windows would not wind down, fiber optic light monitors did not work, and the gas peddle fell off) but it caused such a commotion on the road that it was a blast to drive when I dared to venture out in it. It was ultimately replaced with a 1972 Elkhart Green convertible that had no problems. I would love to have any one of them back.

Retirement gift to myself in 2004. That was my first, a 2005 Mag Red coupe. My 2012 GS is my third C6.

Next one, God willing will be 2016.

I'm hooked for life.

I went from a BMW to a black on black C5 in 2003. My dad and I went all over town and did test drives in everything from Porsches to Audis. What a great day that was! Really nice memory with my dad. Out of all we drove the corvette just blew us away.

Then in fall of 2004 did the most impulsive thing I've ever done and traded it for a 2005 DSOM coupe. Now have order for C7 Z51 CG

Toss in MSRC, NNP with a 3LT Kalahari interior and that's mine too. Someday, sometime.
