Default C7 front bumper question

Hey guys,

Have we determined what the reason is for the two points are for on the lower part of the bumper, under the grille?

A little weird looking in my opinion.

Thanks.

Something to do with personal safety so a person hit goes over the car instead of under it. That's my take away from previous discussions here.

The car was designed in a wind tunnel, so I suspect that it has more to do with airflow than safety.

Thank god we don't have the entire airbag system, just a fang bumper.

Come to think about it, WHY WOULD GM PUT SUCH A FEATURE ???
They said" everything on the car had to earn its way"
And since ,in an interview, they did not seem to focus on ground-breaking safety, I think it has to do with aero/rigidity ....

Still how would this protect a human any more than a regular bumper?

On the other hand, how much does this really help with air flow? I just don't see the major advantage to the loss of style. (its not terrible, but I would like to understand why something that looks weird was designed on purpose. Especially since I know I will be asked later on when I am driving one.)

It works great on European cars. Better to get punted; then dragged under!!

You need to ask the engineers at GM, Ford, etc. They are all having to do it.

Actually, the fangs act like a fork, thus keeping the body from rolling under the car and preventing the annoying "thumpa thumpa" sound.

That is correct. I heard it from one of those GM people yaping about how it has to meet European getting hit by a car standards.

Why not ask the engineering department at GM ?

I rather like it. Whatever it is, it gives the front a more aggressive look and character.
