It appears there are various package prices for OnStar. Does anyone have knowledge of them? In the Lexus groups very few people keep their version after the 1st free year. It seems to be a pretty close feature match to OnStar. The biggest single feature for me is the ability to track the car if stolen.
I have owned about eight different GM vehilces over the past six years and all of them came with On-Star. I never once used it in any of them. I wish GM would stop putting them in all of their cars.

I trust you are aware that GM owns Onstar so of course you can see why that isn't likely to change any time soon.
Additionally, current statistics show a 50% retention rate for new vehicle customers. That's not a bad rate.
I have found one of the best uses of Onstar is the ability to hit the button once you are rolling and ask for directions, then have download it automatically to your nav system. You never miss a beat and don't have to stop to input any address.

It's a good enough value even at $29/month that I kept it. I only rarely need directions but when I do it saves me at least that much lost time that I would have been wandering around, or running into things while absorbed in a smartphone map.
Speaking of accident possibilities, since I'm mostly driving out in the country without a lot of passersby who would see a little wrecked black sports car, the emergency signal that fires along with the airbags may be extremely important someday.
The anti-theft feature may also come in handy, unless the thief knows how simple it is to disable it in seconds. That's why my DIC startup message says REPORTED STOLEN; it might spook them into giving up, thinking I have the only immortal OnStar box. I also get a lot of puzzled looks from service writers when they go out to read the mileage.
In the C7, I sure look forward to integration of OnStar with HUD and the nav display, instead of just following voice directions. OnStar has a few gaps in its database, such as not knowing about the bridge over the Cape Fear River at Tar Heel, so it leads you about 25 miles out of the way if you don't already know where you're going.
I am curious if GM offered a delete option for OnStar what the take rate would be. I see a lot of people that want to remove it and go to great lengths to do so.
I just renewed Onstar yesterday for my primary road car. I don't keep it on my other GM cars/trucks. I told them to cancel my subscription unless they gave me the Safe and Sound package for $149 plus 100 free hands free minutes. They went up a coujple of levels for approval and agreed with the price. I hope that we never need it, but we drive a lot of miles including some very rural areas.

Wonder if the C7 system will have the ability to download to the map display. All the C6 system had was the voice commands - no map display.

I agree. I'm in a rental car on a corporate AmEx when I get to use this but it is great. Will see how I like it in the 'vette at first then decide if it's enough to make me fork over my $ later to keep it.

What is the benefit of removing it? How does it affect the car if you are not subscribed?
I have the base OnStar subscription on my Camaro, but dropped the directions plan since it has no full screen NAV. Prefer to use my phone with a window mount when needed.
I enjoy OnStar as noted in my response above. However I was surprised to see that Chevy 'shortchanges' us by only giving the C7 a 6 month starter package with OnStar versus the 1 year I got with my XTS. I guess I should not have been too surprised since they also give us a shorter warranty and shorter 'free' maintenance package then with the XTS. IMHO It would have been nice for GM to have consistency between brands.
If you use your car as a daily driver, go long distances, night-driving, etc.. I think it can be very useful. I benefited from it in the past a couple of times in my daily drivers. But, in my case, since my last 2 C6's, my Corvettes are either weekend racetrack or get-together show cars. I usually let the initial free months expire without renewing. So I understand why some Corvette folks don't see the need for them.

My point was if it was a delete option and you could save $500 since the plant would not install the hardware I wonder how many would go that way.
