Navigation Updates
In the car, my passenger can make changes to the Garmin without having to pull off the highway.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Can I get a new NAV from GM that will install in the hole in my C6's dash that will allow it to be updated via the internet? How about if it takes a dump and need replacement after the warranty runs out? My Garmin takes a dump, I spend $100 for a new one with the latest features and FREE lifetime map updates.
So, even if the LIFE span on my Garmin is 5 years(which it isn't), that's only $20 a year($100 for a new one divided by 5 years) and I get five years of FREE map updates, 4 times annually.. Compare that to the $200 GM gets for a new CD for my factory NAV.
How much will GM charge to update the C7's factory NAV every 4 months? You can't even update the crappy C6's NAV every 4 months as they only issue a new CD every 12 months.
***"¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately) or if your Garmin product comes bundled with a nüMaps Lifetime or other lifetime map subscription, you will receive map data updates when and as such updates are made available on Garmin.com during the useful life of 1 compatible Garmin product or as long as Garmin receives map data from a third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic area included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired."

The only reason why I will get NAV on C7 is for the HUD integration.
But I suspect that I will still have the Garmin handy.
Over the yrs, not only software changes, but also hardware. My plan is to keep the C7 a long time. I still have my 73 C3 that I bought new. In 5-10 yrs the C7 Nav hardware will be obsolete anyways. It will probaby be replaced with a Kenwood or just lay there dead.
The C7 Nav hardware should be a plug-in with enough pins to accept any new plug-ins.
And, since the Garmin is not tied directly into the car's electronics I can replace it for $100 with a newer Garmin at any time. I can't do that with the obsolete factory NAV that is tied into my C6's electronics.
If my factory NAV takes a crap, do I lose my radio & CD player also, since they are one unit?

Or is this a seperate board that is plugged in. It is added when NAV is ordered?
My guess is that the GPS module is always present whether NAV is ordered or not since OnStar always needs to know where the car is if there is an accident or the car is stolen. If the GPS module is always present, then when the NAV is ordered, some extra software is loaded up and probably a software flag is changed or a jumper is modified to turn NAV on. Anyone know how this is actually configured.
