SS maybe? Four door, ordinarily I'd say no. But looking at that bulbous Panamera, I'd say maybe. I'd agree w. rruunn.

As to the current SS, I'll have to wait and see it in person since it's another Holden from down under. The last one, while many liked it, didn't do so well here...

Plus SS has been attached to many a Chevrolet...My point being maybe the "SS" moniker will take the place of say...Grand Sport for the next "it" C7 in 2015 or beyond.

There was lots of speculation that the C6 ZR1 would be called SS. We don't know what the high performance version will be called so at this point it's entirely possible.

Not to belabor the point but the Porsche company's lead sports car is the 911, a two seat (well 2+2), 3,050 curb weight, flat 6 rear-engine rear wheel drive vehicle, while their Panamera is a front mounted V6, rear wheel drive, 3,900 curb weight high performance luxury four door sedan.

As others have stated, GM has the Corvette as their sports car and the Cadillac CTS-V as their high performance four door sedan.

I just don't see any "SS" stuff being stuck on any Corvettes with the new 'Chevrolet SS' (SS being the actual model name) coming out.

While I understand your point about the differences between the 911 and the Panamera, they do essentially look similar. So, yes, the 911 is rear-engine while the Panamera is front-engine (with V6 AND V8 turbo and non-turbo versions).

But, what about the Aston Martin Rapide S? Now, that is more of a stretched Vanquish and I believe this is where the OP was going with his thoughts. I'd have never thought that either the Panamera or Rapide would have ever gotten approved, but here they are.

So, I can see the possibility of a stretched Corvette to accommodate 4 passengers. While I love the C7, it's a hard sell to my wife when we have a 3 year old. I daily drive my heads/cam/stroked '01 Trans Am. My son loves it! But, having a true 2 seater is a hard sell. Plus, I hate the new Camaro (fat, bloated, and ugly interior), Mustang is, well, a Mustang, and the Challenger is awesome until you get within 4 feet of it and then it's Holy-Cow this thing is big! So, nothing else is "cool" that's low, wide, affordable with a badass V8!!!

That said, if they made something 4 passenger with C7 styling, I'd be interested.

Now, don't kill me!

I can't imagine the SS moniker replacing the Grand Sport name. Seems silly.

Why would I kill you? I had sports cars (Healeys) when I was younger, then finally bought my first Corvette at age 25. We had no children, the wife drove a four seat muscle car and I had the two seater. That continued for several years. Them along came the kids, and just about non-stop corporate travel.

The two seater went away and my car was a four seat car that could be used if the wife's car was in for service. And with all the travel, having a third car was a ridiculous thought. As it was, my car usually got 2,000 miles or so per year on it.

After the kids grew up and had their cars to use, the Corvette became a reasonable vehicle again.

For 60 years, GM has kept the two-seat concept. I, for one, do not believe they are foolish enough to mess with that.

Don't be too sure , I predicted this when I saw them add rear quarter windows . Already looking like it has a back seat so why not a four door ? Maybe all wheel drive too for winter driving ?

Go count the number of two door, two seat (or worthless 2+2 seating) cars that have rear quarter windows! To me, that is just a styling cue that many cars have.

NO to C7 SS.
I've said it before...I'd like to see a Panamera or Ferrari FF style C7 model with AWD to compete with those cars. I'd also like to see a hipo Corvette SUV to compete with the Cayenne. Screw Caddy.

It wasn't the SS that had me going, it was the four door that I don't think should ever happen under the Corvette name. I only used the "SS" in reference to the Chevy SS about to hit dealers now.
