Cut and paste from the 2014 Owner's Manual. Basically the same thing they said in 2002, but now 1st gear is OK too.

Parking (Manual Transmission)

Before exiting the vehicle, move the
shift lever into 1 (First) or
R (Reverse), and apply the parking
brake. Once the shift lever has been
placed into 1 (First) or R (Reverse)
with the clutch pedal pressed in,
turn the ignition off and release the
clutch.

As for flatcrank, it's a pun.
I'm afraid I don't get the pun.

The excerpt is kind of self-explanatory. If it's not, follow the link. Or not; since your implacable position is that no vehicle should ever, but ever, be parked in gear, on grounds that gearboxes aren't designed to hold the car in place and will therefore suffer damage, I doubt that mere technical service bulletins from the factory will have the slightest impact. Neither would the C7 handbook, which also recommends leaving the manual transmission in first or reverse gear. I'm sure you have a theory that supersedes anything GM expressly tells you to do.

You can be immune to facts, but not to the ignore button ... Godspeed ...
