Look at what the evolution of the Z06 became. It was, essentially, the ZR1 with a different engine. I can easily see a single platform with two (or more) different engine options in slightly widebody fitment. Y'know, back to the future.

Have you looked at Viper pricing? That is exactly my point. Look up the Viper at "cars.com". Most of them are in the $130s. They start right at $100K.
If they still plan to build three levels of C7 - such as the C6/C6Z/C6ZR1, then I can see them building one that splits the difference. But I think if they plan to build just one uplevel model as the OP says, then they will want it to represent a true pinnacle that goes toe-to-toe with the Viper.
IMO, ~75% of the people who are "holding out" for a C7 Zxx variant either won't buy one or won't buy one for several years after heavy discounts are in place.

Yep 2016/17 is my target year if it comes out in 2014
The SRT Viper just had a 2k up in price, but not the GTS model. The TA version should be in between the srt and gts pricing, I though i saw 117k but can't remember for sure.
I suspect the high po version(s) of the c7 will be around those prices. I would expect the viper to be more expensive as it is an "exotic".

I got my 2011 Z06/Z07 with a $15,000 discount and I will wait 2 years after the first C7 Z06 type model and will be able to get a great deal.
Look what happened to the C6 Z06.
With the addition of the Z07 package and X pipe the 2011 is a more desirable car than the first 2 years of Z06s.

Z06 MSRP will be around $100K for the first few years...then we will see huge discounts.
C5 Z06 came out around $50K.
C6 Z06 came out around $75K.
C7 Z06 will be around $100K.
I completely think that they will be able to get that for a few years no problem. Even if it was same price as viper, it would sell 10:1 over viper (viper is really only loved by enthusiasts....not the typical sports car guy....too raw and cumbersome for someone looking for a sports car). So the next real competitor is the 911. There's nothing really in between the Z06 and 911, therefore Chevrolet can jack the price up even further and not loose much business.
WORD HAS IT THAT THE z07 will have the 6.2 with twin turbos and come in aroung 100k or the small block with the displacement of the 6.2 with twin turbos . i'm sure by the time it reaches the dealers it will be about 115k.

Apparently I can't say this enough times or in enough forums: Viper isn't on Team Corvette's RADAR. Not in the least. Nothing Team Corvette does for their street cars will be in any way, shape, or form, dictated by what the folks at SRT do.
My point: stop looking at the Viper as competition for the next up-level Corvette. Look elsewhere. Look at the faster Porsches and whatnot.

Always happens like that,,,,,,,,,
That's also similar to my plan. I'm going to definitely wait to see what the Z07 has to offer and at what price point. If I can swing it, I'll wait a year or two after introduction to take advantage of savings and avoid dealer markups. If they price it out of my range, I'll buy a Z51 Stingray within the next 18 months. I'm hoping to go big or go home, time will tell if that dream is possible.
^ In fact, GM has said no such thing. There has been no official word from GM on upcoming Corvette variant models.
weii i guess gm didn't say anything about the elec. c7 either but thats in the works also . we must be reading two dif. things from gm.
guess we will just have to wait and see .
It did for a few weeks, in one test I guess you forgot the memo, either way performance for both cars are world class, the viper is just built better, and in very low volume.
Don't forget that viper will have a ACR that will dominate again
It's going to be similar to the old times when the viper always outdid corvette, but this time the margin will be much closer , I am talking the fast models of each cars.
Good thing for corvette is that they can be tuned, the viper hasn't been cracked since the gen 4( the mopar module didn't do much )
if your buying a new c7 you might want to keep this in mind . there will be a 600hp. + z07 but no zr1 pn the comming 2016 yr,
I wasn't expecting more than 2 motors for the vette, the economy won't let that happen, the 600+HP it will get will outperform the C6 ZR1, my guess is that it will be priced at $85000, making it a bargain , as it will run much closer to the more expensive ACR viper at a lower cost.
I would call the viper lower end exotic now, its interior is much better than corvettes now and the ride is comfortable now( I had seat time in one), the exterior finish has always been top quality when it came to paint, fit and finish.40 thousand plus corvettes produced/ year vs not even 2k/ year on viper and that price, it better be.
