The vehicle has an electronic keyless ignition with pushbutton start.
Pressing the button cycles it through three modes: ACC/ACCESSORY,
ON/RUN/START, and Stopping the Engine/OFF.
I have a 7 speed manual. How do you place the ignition switch in the accessory mode? I like to play the radio when I clean my car.Thank you,Tom
You can join the dozens of C5 and C6 owners who have killed their battery by doing this.
Seriously, the interior lights will usually be on from a door being open, then the additional drain from the Accessory position and radio can finish you off rather quickly. Working on the car always takes longer than expected, perhaps because it's so much fun. I connect a tender/charger when doing this.
The C5/C6 battery is rather small for all the electrical goodies on the car, and I suspect the C7 battery will be the same. Some say that GM is too cheap to put in a proper size battery, I suspect it's more of a move to reduce weight.
This is nuts. There are several DIFFERENT answers to the most basic question I can imagine about a car. I've been digging through the owner's manual for half an hour and I can't find this answer. Who wrote that manual? It couldn't really suck much harder.
With the ignition off, pressing the
button one time without the brake
pedal applied will place the ignition
system in ACC/ACCESSORY.
The ignition will switch from ACC/
ACCESSORY to Stopping the
Engine/OFF after five minutes to
prevent battery rundown.
If all you want is to play the radio.... just turn it on. Press the power button on the radio, it comes on. No acc mode... no clutch/brake... no start switch, no fob needed. Press the button, listen to any and all radio inputs, lasts 10 minutes before you need to repeat the process. And it will work with the door open and you won't hear that annoying chime. Try it, you'll like it.
Oh, one more thing. Press the button a second time when you want to turn it off, no need to wait for it to time out in 10 minutes.

Reason: add turn off instruction.

I 'LL admit, have not checked the owners manual, not sure if the ten minute time out is part of this procedure. Thinking the radio will be on indefinitely. The accessory will cycle off after about 10 minutes, when the temperature indication goes away, time to repush the start button again.
Now for the fun part, you can press the Power/Volume button beside the Infotainment system, vehicle off, no fob present, and the Infotainment system will power up. No chimes if the door is open, no time out. Remember to turn it off when done, though, it will run even after you close up the car and walk away. Finally, what I wanted. I've searched the Owner's Manual and Infotainment Manual and didn't find this specifically mentioned. PS. It's no fun it you don't remember to turn it off.

....I use this method when I exhibit at a car show....I have a specific song I play on my Thumb Drive...Like you say it lasts about 10 mins and I repeat the process depending on how many people are around the car. I do this all day without any problems with the battery.
Like you mentioned, it should last all day. The only thing on is the sound system, unlike the acc mode. I wouldn't expect the battery to last nearly that long in acc mode.
I've looked through both OMs and can't find any mention of simply pressing the ON button to get the radio to play. Both mention the RAP or Retained Accessory Power system as maintaining power on the radio and a few other systems but nothing else. The Infotainment OM does, however, mention this: Automatic Switch-Off If the infotainment system has been turned on after the ignition is turned off, the system will turn off automatically after 10 minutes.
This implies turning on the radio independent of the RAP.
To those afraid of leaving the radio on after leaving the car don't worry, it will turn off in 10 minutes.
Im seriously beside myself...Are WE (and I use WE loosely) this nuts? Again, a legitimate question from the OP but man...We take a simple question and make it evolve into this mass discussion and share best practices and true life experiences on how to press a freakin "ON" button...Really guys?
I guess if you like this one, go onto the batter tender wire thread and join in the discussion on if its safe to close the rear hatch all the way without cutting the cord in half...3 full pages of it! LMAO!

And not to mention the mere revival of a 3 year old thread on top of all that!!!!
