No more pulling the paddle shift and waiting for it to shift (especially the forever downshift). It makes the my C6 look/feel like a slushbox from 30-40 years ago. I spoke with Tadge at the Bash about the auto trans and he said that the software was totally new, different internal components and a smaller torque converter, meaning less rotational inertia for the shaft to over come; all probably leading to the much increased performance. Given the torque curve of this engine I can see no benefit to an 8 speed. Bottom line is this is far from any previous 6L80. Given this transmission's performance I am puzzled why GM does not tout it a bit. All they seem to talk about is the 7speed man. This deserves some good press!

P.S. - Yes it does have launch control.
I totally agree that the tranny in your 2006 C6 A6 ( I had an 06 C6 A6 I recently replaced with a new 2012 CTS-V A6 sedan) is a POS compared to the later version ( 2012/2013) A6 tranny's and I've heard the C7 A6 like you have is even better. Let's hope the A8, that rumor has may be coming, doesn't have the POS characteristics that the first year 2006 A6 had, that you own and I owned. My 2012 CTS-V A6 is a thousand times better than that piece of junk A6 ( except for Caddy type cruising) in my 06 C6.

Probably cafe rules. The MPG's might be a little better.

I've Driven the 6 speed automatic CTS vv series at monte cello track days and it was excellent. In fact that 6 speed automatic set and held the sports sedan lap record at the "ring" until the 150 thousand dollar Porsche panameria lapped faster....

If you don't need to buy a new corvette and want the latest and greatest transmission from Gm than wait for the 8 speed. I'm sure in some way it will be improved over the six speed automatic...
