How is the auto 6 in the stingray? Are the downshifts fast? Is it anything like a DSG downshift? Why can't I find anything on this, let alone a video on YOUtube. From what I have gathered the upshifts appear to be fast and aggressive which is great. Also, does the auto 6 have launch control? Thanks in advance.

It is pretty good. It isn't as good as the DCT in the McLaren or the Ferraris (which are the only two I've tried), but at 1/3 the price, its very good.

Not to be a smart *** but. If the 2015 8 speed is new. Wouldn't it be wise to wait until 2016 until all of the issues are worked out?

I am very confused. What is the advantage of 8 speeds in a car with a virtually flat torque curve? Not to mention the fact that the top two gears are overdrive. I don't understand the thinking here.

The 8 speed is not new, just to the Vette.

There must be some advantage or GM and many other manufactures would not be going to an 8 speed right ?

Tech for tech sake....

Besides what else would the trolls have to talk complain about....

I will suggest that the advancement in design from ZF ON ITS RECENT 8 speed transcend the benefit of extra gearing and have more to do with how the transmission responds almost exactly like a good DcT...

I believe GM s efforts with the 8 speed automatic will not be about the benefit of the extra two gears but possibly mimic the ZF8 torque converter automatic in "feel"

Highly doubt the 2015 will have a 8 speed auto, now the 2016 could if they manufacture a rear mount version, but then you would have first year bugs to work out with the 8 speed.

I have heard it is already designed and undergoing durability testing. Don't know how true that is but it certainly seems possible.

I have a C6 Auto and now a C7 Auto, non-Z51. I totally agree with Mike 0804's review. The C7, especially in track mode, shifts incredibly fast, both up and down and it always seems to be perfectly rev matched. No more pulling the paddle shift and waiting for it to shift (especially the forever downshift). It makes the my C6 look/feel like a slushbox from 30-40 years ago. I spoke with Tadge at the Bash about the auto trans and he said that the software was totally new, different internal components and a smaller torque converter, meaning less rotational inertia for the shaft to over come; all probably leading to the much increased performance. Given the torque curve of this engine I can see no benefit to an 8 speed. Bottom line is this is far from any previous 6L80. Given this transmission's performance I am puzzled why GM does not tout it a bit. All they seem to talk about is the 7speed man. This deserves some good press!

P.S. - Yes it does have launch control.
