^ My brother-in-law was there in early afternoon today, and heard nothing in this regard. From that one might surmised this a a very last minute move.
Another person also got the email late this afternoon and he is really pissed at GM, and I don't blame him. He was going on the tour tomorrow and drove 490 miles to Bowling Green and of course has motel reservations for tonight. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...thanks-gm.html
Now he has to just turn around and drive 490 back home tomorrow.
Something must have happened real sudden like, for them to cancel the tours the day before.
I wonder if it also affects museum deliveries tomorrow, Friday and Monday which also have plant tours included as part of the $990 R8C option?

He's not even going to visit the Museum or that other car collection across the street or anything else? Maybe see the C7s readied for museum delivery tomorrow, watch the deliveries and share the joy that brings to their owners? Just get up, get in his car and go home?

Like me, maybe the plant tour was the primary reason for his visit. I have visited the museum a half dozen times, and it changes very little with each of my visits and the same with the classic car used car lot across the street.
I had planned my tour because the plant has gone through a major redesign since the last time I was there about 3 years ago,and I was interested in seeing it including the new area where they produce the aluminum frames. None of that can be seen at the museum or the used car lot.
like me, maybe he has seen the C7 in person, so seeing it parked in the museum isn't a reason to drive 980 miles round trip.

Maybe this, maybe that, are you saying you don't know?
I'm doing the buyer's tour tomorrow and friday and as of my 7pm (tonight) email from the museum it's still on. Nothing about it being cancelled.
I'm not sure what's happening, but I'd give a quik call to the Museum staff and ask them if the Plant is open for tours. Jus' sayin'.... And I hope it is for your, and other's sake!
There is a thread active right now titled something like "my observations oct 16". After reading his thread about what he saw at the factory, I think that could be why they are shutting down suddenly. He saw quite a few convertibles and coupes with mis-matched body panels

I'm reading this as a supply issue of some kind. I'm guessing they aren't putting mismatched panels on by mistake but as placeholders til they get caught up on supply.
Seriously, I'm very sorry to hear that Joe's (and anyone else's tour) was messed up! I was planning a trip in the next few weeks myself but will now wait til spring when (I hope) things have leveled out.

I am not up on the latest manufacturing, but I feel certain that body panels are not just laying around in batches of different colors waiting for a plan. Certainly GM is smart enough to know that they need the same number of red fenders as red hoods, doors etc.....aren't they?
Do they use a "just in time" system for inventory, or "just in case"?
I was told during my recent Museum delivery plant tour that they have about 3 days of inventory at the plant. The body panels, which are painted on site, come down the line sequenced to meet the chassis. If a defective panel is spotted during assembly, rather than stopping the line to get a new part in the correct color, they put on a mismatched color part as a "flag" that it needs to be replaced after the car comes off the line.
For example, at the station where they were putting on the rear fenders, they had 4 or so fenders in various colors to use for that purpose.

So based upon the number of cars with mis matched body panels the guy on the other thread said he saw, what does that tell you? That there are a hell of a lot of "defects" being flagged.
