SSD is a solid state drive... No moving parts, silicon based. SD card are the same, solid state. The average 3min Mp3 song is 4 mB or 250 songs/Gig. Which equates to about 8000 songs per 32 gig SD. You can either break your music into multiple SDs or as CaryKen said, a 128 gig USB should suffice for most road trips. That would be about 3 months of continuous music, never hearing the same song twice. I would expect that is sufficient.

I have an 80 GB iPod Classic plugged into the USB port in the stash chamber. Works great and it has a (little) spinning disc. I rip my CD's using Apple lossless format for the best sound. No problems with skipping, and the Bose menus emulate the iPod menus pretty well - excellent operability and low access times.
