The problem is finding tires with the width and height that works. Going up one size to a 305 is probably the only real upgrade that makes sense - it will be slightly wider and slightly taller. It's the same issue the C6 had. Some folks went to Z06 tires on the C6 coupe (before the Grand Sport). They would go on, but I never liked them. I had them for a short time and downsized back to a size just one size up.
And if someone goes 305 you probably actually reduce traction because the PSS tires for the C7 Z51 are a different and stickier compound than regular PSS tires. I would bet a 305 PSS would have less grip than a 285 PSS designed for the C7. If someone goes wider (until the equivalent compound and wider PSS are released for, say, the hi-po cars), they are doing it for looks alone.
Keep in mind squeezing wide tires on a narrow wheel is bad for at-the-limit handling behavior. Either do it right with a matching set of wider wheels or not at all.
The new Porsche GT3 will use a 305/30 ZR 20 cup style rear tire and the previous gen used a used a 245/35 19 front, if Michelin's new Pilot Sport Cup 2 is made in both sizes (almost a certainty) this could be a possibility for track guys, or people who want ultimate traction and don't care about the costs.

Running that much stagger on a car with 50/50 weight distribution would be a formula for understeer. No bueno.
C7 Z51 has a rear weight bias, or go to 255's or 265's up front
49/51, big whoop, the point is it's not 40/60 or more like a 911. You'd probably have to go with a 275 up front to maintain the factory handling balance with a 305 in back.

305 is 20mm wider than stock, add 20 up front= 265, until someone trys it we won't really know. would be interesting to see how mrsc, e-dif, ptm ect react
