I was told this past weekend that the only automaker using Google maps in their cars is Audi.
But I agree...I think it would be great to have that app in the car!

Love the Nav unit in my new C7… it’s so simple to use and gets me there every time!
1. Push ON Star button - say can you please send "address" to my Nav unit. 30 seconds later it's there!
2. Drive to destination!
3. So easy!
Thanks, will try that.
Last night the wife and I tried the nav to a restaurant using voice commands. We tried "The Meatball Room", the first response was "The Home Depot, is that correct?". The second time "Capitol Grille" and third time was a wing place.
Whatever they put in the car as a proprietary system will be obsolete before it ever goes to production. That will always be the case, unless they partner with Google to get the real Maps on there.
Otherwise your phone will always be better.
They have little motivation to change while people are still buying what amounts to a $900 tomtom.
I don't have any real complaints about the C7 nav. But honestly, compared to what's available from Google Maps on your phone, nearly every nav system in current cars is out of date. And this opinion is a real departure from how I felt in the past. I've been using Google Maps quite a bit for the last ~6 months, and I love it.

I actually like the C7 Nav system, especially the integration into the HUD and Dashboard. Can't google map that. I think the system is as good or better than the newest Mercedes, Acura, and BWM maps. I haven't driven an Audi recently, I would like to try that Google Map integration.
My only complaint is (and I haven't finished reading the manual) that too much of it requires touch screen use. For example, I'd much rather have the normal joystick+rotary dial to control panning and zoom. Of course you have the same problem with Google there.
I haven't had an example of bad directions yet, others seem to have. But that's happened to me with Google Maps as well. I think they finally fixed it, but google maps of "Hershey Park" used to send you 50 miles the wrong direction towards Allentown.
I think that many of the negative comments are being made by persons who have not used the system very much. I also use Google Maps with my smart phone. But, I am often in areas where I don't have a cell signal, so my Google Maps won't update my route. I also use On*Star with my built in Nav. It is also dependent on cell phone update availability (although less dependent on cell provider sites because it uses any available cell site).
I used it for my recent 3000 mile trip across the US from Bowling Green to California without any problems whatsoever.
I believe that the Nav is a very worthwhile option. I like that it is integrated with the HUD and other electronic systems in the vehicle. I would purchase it again without a second thought.
Thanks, will try that.

And must it say "Sorry" every time is screws up? It's a waste of time and it sounds stupid.
Use Waze. It's owned by google and uses google map platform and is crowd sourced reporting of road conditions/police etc. It works magic to avoid major traffic issues and is pretty good for police reporting.
I would like to recommend that everyone try WAZE by Google. It is a social media Nav app and free. I run it along side of my in vehicle nav and it warns me of police presence and objects in the road or hazards en route all done by fellow wazers in real time. The 2016 apple interface will allow the screen to become a projector for this type of app as far as I can tell. Watch the number of AMENS I get to this suggestion and download it before your next drive. I think I will start a new thread to this effect.
