I sold my car and the dealer where I am ordering my car did a courtesy sale for me so I can get the tax credit. I am paying sticker but at least got a bit more than trade on my car and still get the tax break. I am struggling a bit with the msrp but my dealer has 7 orders for Z51's and is not going to budge. I think it is funny when people brag about getting this and that off of msrp, maybe the guy paying msrp makes $300,000.00 a year and the guy getting $3000.00 off msrp makes $100,000.00 a year. Msrp guy still comes out ahead by $197,000.00.

I can understand you not getting a Z51 lower than MSRP. With your provided info, it's hard to determine if your trade in was a good value for you or not. Finally, EVERY person doing a trade in receives the associated break in sales tax (assuming the state collects sales tax) because it is deducted from the cost of the car before computing taxes.
As others have said, you made a deal that made you happy. That's always good !
We just need some pics when she's here.

I am new to this forum and the Corvette world. There seems to be some type of competition as to prices people paid for their cars. The other forum I am on is more geared toward mods and car info, not so much the prices. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Going to have to scratch my head on this explanation...

Deal was worth an extra $5300.00 to me, this is just an option if someone has a little time and wants to see if they can get a better sale price and at the same time not loose the tax credit.

There are lots of ways to pay for a car.
We usually sell our Vette instead of trading it in. We also wait until the Forum dealers offer DEEP discounts. This early in the C7 cycle and with the demand for the new car I don't see DEEP discounts anytime soon.
This time we decided to buy early and enjoy the C7 up front instead of jumping in 1/2 way through the C7 production cycle.
We may not have gotten the best deal anyone can get but that $4750 is money I didn't pay out of pocket. And .. this was the easiest car buy I have ever experienced.

Basically I was offered $46,000 trade in from the dealer which I was not happy with. I listed my car and got a private offer of $51,000.00. I sold my car to the Chevy dealer for $51,000 and they in turn sold it to the buyer for $51,000. Because it went thru the dealer I get the tax credit on $51,000 plus the higher sale price as well.
Deal was worth an extra $5300.00 to me, this is just an option if someone has a little time and wants to see if they can get a better sale price and at the same time not loose the tax credit.

You could have sold the car yourself for $51,000 so it's not "fair" to count the savings above the $46,000 trade-in value simply because the dealership did a "sale-thru". So, all you have, if I understand correctly, is the savings one gains by lowering the amount of money the one pays taxes on by having a trade-in (since having $51,000 in cash doesn't do the same thing). I'm not sure where you live but if you lived in Georgia, you would have paid 6.5% "tax". 6.5% of $51,000 equals a savings of $3,315. In order to have saved $5,300 in sales tax, the rate would had to have been about 10.4%--a strange (and pretty high) rate. What state are you from?
Also, you indicate this saved you $5,300 yet the title of the thread uses the total of $4,750. Why wouldn't the title of the thread have stated a discount of $5,300 instead?
I think most people here would applaud your deal--it was beneficial for the dealership to "do that little trick" for you (though I'm scratching my head wondering how they could escape some extra charges in that separate transaction themselves). What most people "object" to--if I can use that strong word--is representing your transaction as having received a discount on the price of the car which you technically didn't receive and that after having read the thread, they know they could never receive. You see, everyone would like to find a dealership where they, too, could get a Z51 convertible discounted nearly $5,000 but that's not what happened. The car was sold at MSRP and other "shenanigans" were used to save you money.
[EDIT] Ooops, I seem to have confused you with the OP. Disregard the lightened text above.

If I did a direct trade at the $46,000 my wallet would be $5300.00 lighter.
No big deal I was just trying to state that others may be able to get the dealer to do a courtesy sale so they get the benefit of the private sale value and still get the tax credit.
I guess I could have not run it thru the dealer and just sold it on my own but then I would lose the $3060.00 tax credit.
Just trying to look after my financial well being as no one else is.
* Dealer charged $525.00 to do the deal as they must show some type of profit and also cover the paperwork.
* Agree the OP got my attention and then I realized he received no discount at all.
* I am not getting any discount just trying to maximize my trade and tax situation. OP claimed discount.
