Default Gas Door

Guys whats the thought process behind having to open the driver door before you can open gas door seems odd to me, thanks.

Yeah, there is a little bit more to it than that. For example, when I pull up to the pump, I get out of the car, close the door, the gas panel is locked. I have to then open the door again (it is already unlocked), and then the gas panel unlocks itself. Rather odd dance to do.

1) Get out of car.
2) Close door.
3) Open door.
4) Open gas panel.
5) Close door.

Next time I fill it up, I'll try hitting the unlock door button before I get out and see if it works the way I hope it does, cause I've been doing the door dance every time I fill it up.

no..there is no more to it than what I wrote...

my car is locked as I walk toward it - the gas door is locked. I unlock the car with my key and the gas door is now unlocked and will open by pushing on it. Nothing to do with the door opening or closing...

That is not how mine works at all. The gas door is only locked when the doors are locked. I just went out to the garage and opened the gas filler door.

Do you have auto lock on?

Maybe a software setting that gives you a few options as I will not have a c7 for a few weeks I have no clue.

I open the door and reach around to open the gas cap as I'm getting out of the car. No problem.

no software settings...fuel doors work with a global open on every new car these days...at least 90% of them if they are solenoid and not cable...

How about:
1. Open door
2. Get out of the car
3. Open gas panel
4. Close door

Although the gas door on mine is only locked when the doors are locked, I can hear, and see if I open the gas door and look, the latch mechanism cycle quickly to lock and unlock each time I press the exterior door open button. I've always thought it strange that the two are linked. There does not seem to be a purpose for it.

Who knew opening a gas door could be so complicated!

It's not, btw...hit the unlock on your fob and open the gas door.

where the complication comes in is if you have your initial unlock setting to unlock only your driver door...you have to unlock all the doors - as the GAS DOOR is a DOOR!

That's exactly the way I do it. Once done three times the same way, it's a habit (but only at the pump).

Doesn't work for me.

1. Open door
2. Get out of the car
3. Gas panel is locked
4. Close door
5. Open door
6. Open gas panel

I guess I could hit the unlock on the fob instead of reopening the door, but since I'm right there, reopening the door is easier than digging the fob out of my jacket. I should have tried hitting the unlock on the door, perhaps that will work too.

I did check, and yes, if I hit the unlock door button on the way out of the car, it does unlock the gas panel.

I had gotten used to just reopening the door because the first time it happened, I opened the door to hit the unlock button and opening the door unlocked the gas panel for me, so I just kept doing that, lol.
