Is this a problem that has been fixed permanently after a certain VIN and all new cars are getting a revised torque tube?

Yeah that's not normal. A little chatter from the shifter area is, but not that.

Anyone think the guy in the video is a lawyer based on how he "presents" his case

Na, sounds more like a concerned citizen If he didnt say anything he would have been asked 1000 questions, best to get all the info out there.

mine is now making the same exact noise. Does not seem to be coming
from the torque tube.

the noise definitely changes from cold to warm. And might be cracks inside
the catalytic converters.

Dealer contacted GM and they stated replace the whole assembly (Torque tube/drive shaft), new unit sent in one day, local dealer installed it the day it came in and GM requested the old unit be sent back. I can see if too many units are required they might have a back order. I do know of two others that had the same situation with VINs below 1500. GM will take care of it.

All is well now and have put 1K miles on it.
I have to take back all is well.

The vehicle came to a stop light and stopped, tried to restart and almost sounded like a very low battery would hardly crank. Had it towed to the dealer, a couple hours later it started. Had a couple more times when restarting where it started but labored trying to start. Drove it for about 45 minutes and was going to take it to the dealer to have them experience the hard starting, got to the dealers lot shut it down and it would not start, had a service writer witness the problem. It is now at the dealership till they figure it out.

I do leave it on a trickle charger between drives, the problem seems to be heat related, being it happens after driving for a while, then after sitting for a couple hours it will start with no problems. The battery was tested and OK

Who knows, but will not know much for a couple days their Tech is in training today and will look at it Wed. I know I will not take the car back till something is found being I can recreate the problem after driving it for a half hour or more. Being it's a low VIN 0170 Z51 A6 and spent time at Roush before delivery. It's a great car when running, but with this problem it will stay at the dealership.

Not that this is going to help in this situation, but if they had made the C7 a mid-engine (sorry, REAR mid-engine) design, this problem wouldn't exist.

Personally would not have a Mid-Engined car much less a C7 Mid, how would that change the design.

Don't understand why people can not stick to the subject of the thread.

Agree! Might as well say had he bought a Prius instead of a C7 he wouldn't have a torque tube issue.

You know it wouldn't have happened if GM had gone back to the C4 design and stuck the transmission on the back of the engine and made the car nose heavy... dummies at GM.

I seriously hope so. Seems like this has been going on for a while after a quick google search.

I SAID it wouldn't help this situation, but I was just pointing out the obvious. I'm just trying to steer some out of the box thinkers into considering a mid-engine design for the C8, but there don't seem to be too many of those here.

You would have the engine bolted to the bell-housing containing the clutch, same as now, THEN the transmission, then the differential. NO torque tube and long driveshaft, which are the parts causing this particular problem and which add weight and absorb power.

You would also eliminate about 6-7 feet of exhaust tubing.

Just something I hope people in influential positions start reconsidering. I just threw that out there because I enjoy getting flamed.

And on top of that, the OP has already figured out what the problem is and is waiting for parts. What more are we going to contribute to that?

Well I have a C7 with vin# ending in 2347 purchased in Feb 2014 and I have the same exact sound coming from the mid-underneath section of my car. I guess GM is well aware of the issue by now but is still building Stingrays with the same faulty parts and/or design. I will take the car to the dealer next week and fully expect to have the car torn apart... and with <7k miles on it too!
