Man, that would torque me off!
Contact the Chev Customer Service folks (in the Tracking thread sticky above) and see if they can do anything to expedite it for you. You'll find them very helpful
It needs to be aligned correctly when they install it and I would get customer service involved so it's done properly. People have reported that their motors were destroyed when it's not done right.

I believe there is a "special pin alignment kit" and procedure that's used to align everything when it's reassembled, but dealers don't have them yet. GM customer service can provide the information to the servicing dealer.
My car has about 5600 miles. VIN 216. I started hearing some rattling only at idle about 500 miles ago. Dealership just told me the torque tube needs to be replaced and it will take at least a week to get the part.
Has anyone experienced a noisy torque tube issue ?
C5-JIM
Looked at all the relpys above.
Here is what happened with my VIN#0170, noise started and was not from the engine and was under the car. Tech looked at it and stated it was the drive shaft bearings. Dealer contacted GM and they stated replace the whole assembly (Torque tube/drive shaft), new unit sent in one day, local dealer installed it the day it came in and GM requested the old unit be sent back. I can see if too many units are required they might have a back order. I do know of two others that had the same situation with VINs below 1500. GM will take care of it.

Yes, the same type of noise, first thought it was coming from the engine but lifted the hood and could not isolate it, then checking under the car and to the rear and that was where it was coming from. The tech did the same check on the lift. Dealership & GM were quick in replacing the unit (Torque Tube/Drive Shaft assembly), car was in the shop a total of 4 work days.
The manuals will make some noise with the clutch engaged and the car in neutral. In this scenario the engine is turning the drive shaft at idle. You'll hear some noise... been that way since the C5. Does the noise go away when you push the clutch in and disengage the drive shaft from the engine?
As for special alignment tools... they must have changed something from the C5/C6 as there are alignment dowels on the tube already. It can only get installed to the engine and trans in one manner... it's quite easy.

+1
C5/C6 torque tube is easy to change, not sure why they would make it more difficult on a C7 and eliminate the dowels. Its possible they may have done something like the LS timing cover and eliminate the dowels and it needs a lineup tool. Could be the C7 couplers have no tolerance for misalignment. Speculating until I look at a service manual..
