It will not average 39.6 MPG while doing 84 MPH.
Average means all miles driven.
Nor will it do 39.6 average for 84 miles.
If it does you should turn this special car in for teardown to GM.
If it did do it GM would be telling us not you! You don't think they tested out this more than you?
It will show more sometimes than it's actually doing.
Put in 2 gallons and see if you can go 80 miles!
Make sure you bring a gas can!

It will do what close to what GM says!

To recap.

I drove the car from San Diego to Phoenix. I know for a fact that it was on cruise control in CA for 79 mph and in AZ for 84 mph.

The way the average mileage works in the Corvette is you have a choice of setting it for the last 25 miles (iirc), last 50 miles or last 400 miles. The default is 50 miles.

So while I was driving back from San Diego. For one 50 miles stretch, it got 39.6 mpg. As per the photo. It averaged 34/36 for most of the way while on cruise control.

I don't know if you have ever been in southern Arizona or eastern California, but the Sonoran plain is flat as a pancake. There are some hills as you get to the edge of the Sonoran plain on the California side, but that is about it.

During some fifty mile stretch on that trip from San Diego to Phoenix the car averaged 39.6 mpg. Which I think is remarkable for a muscle car like this. Amazing use of technology.

For the most part of the trip, the car averaged around 34/36 mpg. The 15 mpg you see here is the average over the last fifty miles I drove which is basically my commute. It is a short commute and stop start traffic all way. No highways.

The reason for the post was that i was impressed that during some fifty mile stretch the car nearly got 40mpg. It seems some others in the forum did, which again, I think is great engineering from a 6.2 litre 460 horsepower V8.

None of this mileage crap means a thing to me without knowing what tranny you're using. A6 M7 A6Z51 M7Z51.

I'm heading to the dealer on Wednesday and I'm vacillating between the A6Z51 and M7Z51.

So, don't be shy, what options do you have in your cars for the mileages you're touting!

OK, so where is the average speed and elapsed time/hour meter calculations? Or, does the car not have the ability to provide those figures?

OK, I can't help but laugh a little here....I had a car (not Corvette!) that would average, at best, 25mpg on the highway during a trip through the mountains of Pennsylvania. At one point on I-70 south of Breezewood, a downhill run would produce about 90 mpg on the display and if I let it go, about 80mph even though the cruise control was set about 5 mph above the speed limit...looks great on the surface, huh?

Can't take the maximum number for anything more than what it is....the average is what counts, lol!
