I always love these threads. The Auto is a blink (ok, two blinks) of an eye faster in a straight line than a manual. So what. Its a sports Car. Its about fun, the "driving experience". Not about how well I can aim/steer the Car in a straight line relative to the bozo in the "lane" next to me.
These threads are enjoyable to read, but quite frankly a bit useless. It all comes down to whether you want to shift or not. It's funny to read the justifications of some in making their choice, by comparing the use of each on the track, streets, on drag strips, in the hands of experts or novices.
Let's face it, whether you opt for an A6 or M7, there will always be someone else who is faster, there will always be a new and improved version just around the corner, and there will always be someone claiming their choice is best.
