Default Convertible wind blocker...

Was reading Car & Driver review of C7 convertible today and it mentions that a wind deflector is a dealer installed option...its bolted in and remains in place whether top is up or down. This is the first I've heard about this. While living in the northeast I've not had a chance to put the top down though most magazines report wind is not an issue with top down and less so than in coupe with roof removed. Two questions...1) Does anyone have more information and picture of wind deflector option ? & 2) To those living in warmer climates, do you think a wind deflector would be useful or needed based on your experience with convertible top down ?

I have not seen or heard of a wind deflector for the C7 yet. I have driven a good many miles in mine with the top down and really don't see the need for one.

I had one on my Corvette convertible. I think they are a waste and take up space too

while possibly the aftermarket isn't ready for the C7, prior gen had about 3 diff. kinds. one was as you described, and couldn't be left in place when top went up--had to be manually removed (and some said a PITA to do so). one could be left in place w. top up. and third was a lexan/acrylic see-thru that had options to light up or not with neon letters/logo, and could be left in place. a few who have bought them said it really wasn't needed--the windblocker of any sort.

well, the wind deflector works for me, and takes up very little space. Just saying....

I'm very happy with mine from
http://www.kingpennindustries.com/corvette.htm
for my ZL1. I understand they started work on
the C7 design around three weeks ago.

If buffeting is a concern, the solution is to buy a coupe.

Default C7 Wind Deflecter

I used an aftermarket wind screen in two of my C5s and both of my C6s. The C7 does a much better job of isolating the cabin with the top down. My wife and I travel with the top down at 70 MPH but at that speed we usually put the windows up. Around town in the C7 with the top down at 45 MPH, little or no air disturbance like the C5 and C6.

I would not order anything until I tried it out.

The wind deflector prevents air from the trunk area from washing down into the car from between the seats over the center console. When the windows are up, the interior is a low pressure area and air is sucked in from the top of the trunk. If you like to drive with top down when its cold out (for me that's 68 or below), it's a must have. With the windows down, the wind deflector doesn't do anything.

Buffeting only occurs with the coupe. With the windows down, air hitting the side mirrors makes it's way into the cabin area and the air has no where to go except the rear area. This increases the pressure until it exceeds the pressure of the air coming in and then it suddenly blows out. This happens several times a second creating the buffeting sound you hear. Convertibles don't suffer from this problem with the top up or down.

The point is not one of semantics. Assuming you are correct?

My C7 does a much better job of blocking the wind than either of my S2000s.

Not to complain but...

Did you consider the new Corvette emblem when deciding on an etching/engraving?

Otherwise, looks pretty nice and unobtrusive.

Just me, but I could never understand driving a convertible with the side windows up and a wind deflector. Save $5000 and get the coupe.

My wife is on her third vert in a row and says there should be a law against driving a vert with the top down and windows up.

My C6 coupe had far worse wind buffeting in the cockpit with the top off than my C7 vert does with the top down.

Double AA what kind of difference does your wind restrictor make?
My Porsche 911 convertible has a cloth wind restrictor with tiny holes in it and it works great.
Can you show more pictures of how it mounts?
