Just curious. I have my car in the shop right now for the Tube Torque Drive Shaft problem and while it is in I asked them to look into the chirping sound I have while in Sport or Track Mode (NPP) when the car switches from 8cy to 4cy. I know I have seen posts where several of you have experienced the same problem. Has anyone actually had this serviced and if so what was the solution? My service department is saying they cannot reproduce the sound which is ridiculous, I have it all day everyday. If I have to I will go down there and show them, just wanted to know if anyone knew the fix for this. Thanks so much.
My car started to do that around 1500 miles, took it to the dealership and the dealership as well as a GM Engineer said it was "normal" Yes, you read it right, normal...
Than again the GM Engineer said that Orange Peel on the paint is part of the design as well as a rattle I have in the back is normal due to the NPP exhaust.
Good Luck, let me know how the address the squeak.
If it's one chirp each time it changes from 8 to 4 or 4 to 8, it sounds like the valves in the exhaust system opening and closing might be it.
Have them check both sets. If I'm remembering correctly, the best solution was a spray on lubricant
I would say it definitely is the baffles, and I had read somewhere that someone said they just needed a lubricant, but when I suggested that to the service guy he said that at the high heat in the mufflers the lubricant wouldn't last long. I just wondered if anyone has had this serviced yet and if so what their solution was.

Wow, you are kidding, they said it was normal. Ridiculous. It completely takes away from the grumble of the mufflers to end with a chirp Also if it was normal it would be happening to everyone not just some. Watch for that rattle. I had it at first and attributed it to the NPP but it turned out to be the driveshaft instead. I will let you know what they find in the chirp, but my guess is I am going to get the same answer as you since they are trying to say they cannot duplicate it. Don't you just love when a problem they don't have an answer for becomes "normal". The baffles are probably too large and the only fix is a redesign and replacement of the NPP. Crazy.

My rattle is in the hatch area, like you I'm a low VIN too. my squeak is coming from the drivers side NPP motor (I think) it can be duplicated by turning driving mode from auto to off and back and forth. Keep us posted!

My chirp (squeak) usually can be duplicated by switching from Sport to Touring but wouldn't you know it, I couldn't get it to chirp that way when I was there. I will let you know the outcome. Thanks.

LOL, as always, when the doctor is around it never happens...
I was able to duplicate mine every time and all they could say is that it's normal. It's more pronounced when it's cold outside with my car.

I didn't know that the C7 would change to 4cy in Sport or Track Mode? My 7 speed only goes to 4cy in Economy Mode.
However, I also have a faint chirp or squeak that can be heard mostly at city speeds on straight flat surfaces. I'm thinking it the NPP baffles opening and closing, but have not had it checked out.

Only on Automatic cars will ECO kick in under all modes except for when you are in "paddle shift mode"
Does your exhaust quiet down or get louder when you hear the squeak?

That's a good question. I have my NPP set to open (loud) all the time. However, it still goes into quiet mode during steady city driving at speeds up to 45 mph. I only hear the squeak when the exhaust is quiet and it can happen even on smooth road surfaces.
SO GLAD I found this thread among others pointing to same problem/solution (temp fix as it were). I started hearing the chirp/squeak and thought it was my 4th gear, until I had it happen in 5th and 6th. Of course as soon as you hit the clutch it goes from v4 to v8 and anything over 4th it moves those baffles. It all added up. I did a temp wd40 and just tried to duplicate and it's gone.
Has anyone found a long/longer term solution?
thanks
Mine does the exact same thing. Took it to the dealer and told them they can duplicate it by turning it from tour to sport. They heard it and told me the noise is normal. They also told me it only happens when it changes from tour to sport. I told them no, it happens every time I slow down to a stop and the baffles open back up. I get the chirp when switching from tour to sport, so figured it is the back valves. I verified the sound was the back valves by having my wife switch from tour to sport as I was behind it listening. I turned my auto sound off, figuring that would keep the back valves open, but they still must close and open because I still get the chirp, when slowing down to a stop and the engine switches from V4 to V8 (I have an automatic). I thought only the front valves would switch for the change from V4 to V8, but the back ones seem to still open and close also, even with the auto sound turned off.
I'm waiting on replies from owners with 15 models to see if any changes from factory yet for all this programming. My valves sure slam shut hard at about 30 mph with light throttle operation. Also when V4 kicks in.

That's cause there's a computer generated stop-gap when dlrs are too busy. It senses when the car is brought in for service and it will not replicate.
