It's unfortunate, but there are a number of reasons (IMO) for the Gen V's lack of success.
I hope SRT finds the right formula, or there isn't going to be a '15 (and that decision may already have been made).

I do too. I would hate if the viper when away.

The Viper's still a heck of sharp car. However, it's not the mid-nineties anymore and the Viper's performance is no longer near the top of the heap. Super-cars are now hyper-cars, sports-cars are now super-cars and sport sedans are 500+hp. I like raw performance as much as the next guy, but when you're talking $100K-$140K there are a lot of attractive options out there...pre-owned exotic, GT-R, Porsche Turbo, etc. That said, there are good new Viper deals out there, now. My guess...the majority of those buying Gen 5's are die-hard Viper guys or guys who can afford multiple performance cars.
Ultimately, as nice as the new Viper is, you can buy a good used Viper which still looks great, is plenty fast for the street and gives you a similar overall experience (raw feel, handling, sound, etc.).

Viper not selling well (cannot argue that point) was great for someone like me (and others) who just bought a Gen 5. Part of the viper's appeal is its very low production (some years no production) volume. Soon there will be more new stingrays than all the vipers ever made.
Another benefit of poor sales is pricing. I bought a 2013 with 1000 miles for about $20K less than sticker. Just like in 2007, 2011, 2012, there may not be a 2015/2016/.....and that's almost expected.
Not die-hard but like vipers a lot...on my third after a 2006 coupe and 2002 gts. As far as performance, the Gen 5 has 640 hp stock which is more than the 355 rear tires can handle anyway. The Gen 5 is the easiest one to drive and with traction/stability controls, the safest for my average skills. All more power means to me is a longer walk out of the woods. As far as fast, Gen 5s are hitting high 10s with just a tire change. I would expect the C7Z to be just as fast or faster.....cannot wait to see the C7Z perform

The wife and I were at the dealer's show room waiting for her van to be service. I was waiting for my C7 to be built at the time. She saw the 2014 Viper sitting on the floor and said, "I like this car as well as the C7." The salesman tells her it only costs $140k and she says, "I think we'll stay with the C7."
That viper will be on the showroom floor a very long time at that price. Viper pricing has dropped $20K+ recently. I still think they are overpriced but not by that much anymore
People will buy what they can afford and admire. The Viper is a different echelon of automobile. Steve I agree with you, they placed too much emphasis on thigh super high end materials and had no choice but to come in too high in price. The car should be
80ish for a SRT and 120ish for a GTS. The car that is priced right is the TA.

I was big into Viper for years and just sold my Underground-built GTS last year. I ended up moving into different platforms, so never went back. But the Gen V just didn't do anything for me. I'm glad those who bought one are enjoying it.
I was in NJ for the NYIAS, and SRT was showing the car there (2012). The same day I was picking up my '13 GT-R from a dealer in NJ. We went to the car show before we went to the dealer, and I figured if I was floored with the Gen V, I'd bail on the GT-R and order one. I ended up leaving NYIAS after looking around the Viper display for about 10-minutes. I think lots of potential Viper owners have done the same thing and moved to other brands as time has sort of passed by the Viper.
Has anybody other than NineBall gone 10's on drag radials? AFAIK, he ran over 25 passes the day he did went 10's to get there, and one of the big issues is that the PCM pulls tons of power when it detects inlet temps over a certain threshold.

Local guy here in town just sold off his '14 Z51 loaded convertible with 1800 miles for a new Viper......
Well, think of it this way, Mr. Mod: it could've been that he sold off his loaded 2014 Z51 vert for one of the 785* Porsche GT3, with 469 hp, costing $131K** that have a problem with some burning up from engine fires. (recall in place now)
Yes, it could be worse. Great cars but just a little too hot.
At Autotrader.com, I did a nationwide search for 2014 SRT Vipers, set price as lowest-to-highest, scrolled down to standard-listings, and found $93,500 , $94,999 , $99,980 , and $99,999
.
Like I've said for a very long time...Ralphy needs to be replaced as Viper's situation is actually getting worse instead of better! He doomed the new Viper for sure from the ZR1/Viper Motor Trend comparo fiasco on thru the 2013 Motor Trend's Best Driver's Car failure and then the 2014 SRT Viper $2000 price bump to $103,990.
Sad to see such a great car so mismanaged. Way overpriced to compete with the Corvette...it could be a real Mustang/Camaro-type competition if they'd just get their heads on straight. Just imagine if the Viper was within $5k-$10k of the Corvette! They need to mass-produce this on a line to be able to drop the price. Who really cares if their Viper is "hand-built" anyway?
I would like to see the Viper sell. The three that I've seen at dealers looked fantastic but they are just too high priced. The painted stripe is a 5k option. The fit finish is very good and the paint is spectacular but not that 115k spectacular.
