LOL ok so today was a first. I was cruising into work at around 63 mph and this car comes past me and stays to the lane on the left of me and started pacing me. Next thing I know I see a middle finger come out the passenger side. I was like um.....ok......so I politely put my car in second and flew past them returning the favor never to be seen again.....hahahahahaha. Jealousy is a B****, but some people dont want to work for their goals, they just expect handouts, and chastize people who do. Thanks Obama.
Could be any number of reasons other than jealousy.
Also, just curious as someone from CA, this is the first time I've heard the middle finger as the "California Howdy". Is that a common term, or am I just that old? Maybe it was answered earlier.
I prefer to think in racing terms: When someone flips me off it must mean that I'm #1 (not that it happens much, I try to be nice to other drivers, mostly by getting around and away from people as smoothly and quickly as possible).

Maybe they just thought you were driving like a jerk?

I'm not sure how it started, but it's been known for a long time.

It sounds like you are making up your own rules of the road.
The only lane on a highway with a designation is the left lane. It is the passing lane. The right lane is for slower traffic, but only when there is a sign tnat indicates it.
The middle lane has no designation. If you are in the middle lane and you get passed on the left then you've done absolutely nothing wrong. If the other driver, God fobid, has to slow down first before he can pass you in the left lane, then he just needs to get over it.
