Changing the rear end will the the first and likely only mod I make on the car. The tail lights themselves I would keep. It's the rest that doesn't work for me. Basically need a whole new rear fascia to fix it.

The taillights and pipes to date are the most cost effective for an evolutionary change.
Yes, I get that. I think part of the issue here is that there is so much stuff going on with the rear that everyone has a different part of it they take issue wish. For me, the tail lamps in and of themselves are cool, as are the exhaust pipes (even though one is round and the other paralellogram). My issue is with the silly bezels around the tail lamps and the bottom half of the fascia, which taken as a whole looks like a sad face. Kinda looks like Homer Simpson crying with mascara... it is the first time I look at the back of a vehicle and see a face rather than a normal rear end with brand identity.

Anyway, best of luck with the parts - this is not an easy crowd to satisfy.

Crowd’s ok, only a few juveniles scribbling with crayons…. and you’re right about the evocative part. Attempt is to eliminate the Camaro-esque stigma while not losing the original style and persuade those still with a dislike for the rear to warm up to it.

No contest, it would be silly to argue against what’s your absolute right/preference.

Thanks, and it may evolve being it’s the most reasonable cost effective approach compared to reworking the entire rear and upsetting the comfortable some already have of it as-is.

During the C4 run in '89-'90 such a modification/change occurred. The rear and lights were changed, and exhaust shape was nicely matched – round was eliminated out of the equation then and may be in the future with the C7.

Time will tell...
Thanks. Sometimes it does take time to acquire a taste, as the C7 presence wasn’t an overnight success either. Just would like to see chance given the idea(s) in developing acceptance as it was for the C7 in general.

Individualist
Thanks. As many are content with a norm others push the envelope to individual measures, nothing wrong with both as neither would be recognizable without the other. A personal favorite ...in POST 28 – P. 34, The Preservation of Personality (1927), states it as the fact that it is, and as seen daily in all walks of life.

Thanks, and yes a tough crowd. Reducing the contrast between the top and lower panel in later models would start to simplify the complexity. The bezel is a difficult area, mold it into the bumper and the lights are void a threshold; a transition point, plus it may possibly anger those already accustom to it; taste is a fickle customer. And, as stated earlier, time will tell. Btw, on a humorous note, a similar impression of a face occurred during the redesign, resembles Darth Vader when you shape the helmet over it all.
