Default Noise driving me nuts

I have had my C7 only 2 weeks and I hear something coming from the inside, maybe on the passenger side rear hatch...it only seems to happen when I hit a bump or dip in the road. Has anyone else had this? The best I can describe is it sounds like the plastic is loose.

There was a post in C7 General about the rear hatch popping over bumps, along with a fix and pics about putting extra gasket under the front of the hatch. I haven't found it yet, but a search will help you.

Hey Drace99,

I apologize that you are experiencing concerns with your Vette. I would be more than happy to look into this further for you, although I cannot guarantee the outcome. Please provide me with your contact information, VIN, and your preferred dealership via private message, if this interests you. Hope to hear from you soon!

Just looked, we're at 1400 miles. First 1K miles, I think we had a total of 3 rattle noises in misc. places in the car. Each lasted a handful of drives then disappeared with no action. Right now - no noises for easily last 10 drives. Just a FYI.

also, I don't know if this is what you're hearing but I noticed a similar rattle which turned out to be the passenger seat belt buckle hitting against the b-pillar. I pulled the lower part of the seat belt housing forward, in front of the seat back, and the rattle stopped.

Is it the passenger seat belt buckle hitting the seat back?

If the belt is just hanging next to the seat the buckle will hit the plastic seat belt over bumps. Its pretty loud and not a normal little creak/rattle.

My C7 has a vibration rattle only at freeway speeds on rougher pavement. I have isolated the source in the rear hatch gasket, more specifically on the passenger side forward area of the gasket. It is not the gasket itself rather it is where the interior roof panel wraps up and around the roof structure and is covered by the rubber hatch gasket.

To fix this rattle, lift the rubber gasket to expose the edge of the interior roof panel. Pry the panel away from the body frame and stuff some felt or padding material between the two hard surfaces. I have not eliminated the rattle but decreased its frequency by inserting felt at 4 different locations along the gasket area. I'll keep adding more felt until I can silence the rattle 100%.

i have heard the same rattle, sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the trunk where the metal loop is you attach the shade. i will also look at the seat belt to see.

When you hear the buzzing rattle, have your wife unbuckle her seatbelt, contort herself around facing rearward and pull on the upper edge of the gasket until the squeak stops. That's how I identified the location while my friend was driving.

I inserted 1/4" strips of felt with adhesive backing but I have not found the exact spot yet. I have managed to diminish the sound of the rattle but it is still there but not as often. Trouble is, it only happens on certain rough stretches of freeway so rattle testing is not convenient or easy to do.

The noise is coming from the foam battery cover under the rear carpet. Remove the foam cover and the noise will go away.

I haven't figured out how to get it to stop with the foam piece in place. If anyone has a fix with pictures, it would be cool

Default so far so good

I haven't been able to drive my vette until yesterday, but I moved the seatbelt and the rattle seems to be gone...I will also check the gasket and battery cover too. Thanks

Default not the seatbelt

The noise has never really stopped, I thought it was the seatbelt, but it is not. I think it is the rear hatch...bringing it to Kerbeck this Friday, hopefully they can fix it. I have noticed it is worse on cooler days/temps.

I fixed the same issue on two different C7s. Awful squeaky racket. It was due to the rear quarter glass rubber gasket rubbing on the rear quarter panel - on BOTH sides. I found the thread mentioned above, and I would never have believed the noise was coming from outside the car.

But I solved it by REMOVING shims at the first screw in my picture below to create a GAP between the window gasket and body panel.

This was mentioned above, but this looks like it shims the interface tighter rather than removing the interference as I did:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...heres-how.html

My approach:

Push here to see if it squeaks:

If it does, remove this screw:

Remove at least 1 shim:

And you want to create a small gap, then do the press-squeak test again. If it does remove another shim (they were different thickness on mine):

If the rattle is from that plastic cover at the top of the rear window, as
some suggest, GM redesigned that part at some point in the production run to try to fix that. Mine at 9950 had the new part, still
rattles on bumps when very cold but otherwise not at all. Suggestion from the Quality control supervisor at the plant was to ask your dealer
to replace that part it rattle is present.
