Would someone be able to let me and others new to the forum know how the allocation process works. I ordered a 2LT, Z51 from a large forum dealer on March 12th. I have the GM Workbench order information. I just checked with Chevrolet customer service yesterday and was told that my car was still at event code 1100. I understand nothing really happens until there is an allocation that matches the order and GM accepts it. But I'm not sure that's how it works. How does this work and how long should I wait until I follow up with the dealer? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this process.
We can speculate all day, but YOU need to call the dealer and ask him what's going on, etc.
Forget Cust Service, the dealer is the one that can answer questions as to his allocations and when it's going to get to 2000...that's the magic number.

Ordered from Rick Conti. 2LT Coupe, 7M, Z51, MRC, Black, Adrenaline Red, Competition Seats, Nav, Black Wheels, red calipers. I do plan on following up with Rick but don't want to be a pest. Thanks.

Um, you are the customer--I wouldn't worry about being a pest. It's his job to keep you informed.
but I am still interested to know how the allocation process works.
Dealers Earned allocations according to their orders and sales in the 2012-2013 year. Not a great year to be selling vettes with the C7 on the horizon. It took Faith, effort, commitment and skinny margins. Those who stepped up were rewarded with allocations for 2014. Those that didn't are SOL. In summary: You scratch my back I'll scratch yours.

Allocations are based on previous model year sales for that particular model, so if a dealer sold 100 units the year before (except C7 initially was based on 2012 and 2013) they will be allocated 100 units during the course of the new model year.
Allocations must be used when they come up or it may be given to another dealer (which explains why so few dealers have 40% of the allocation) and orders that include constrained items may not proceed, but that is a whole other game.
In the past Rick Conti had a pretty good web page where he included a lot of info about all this; I haven't looked at it for months but there is a good chance he has additional info you might be interested on that page.

There were no orders picked up last week. This weeks consensus is not final until Tuesday, at which point your order may change to status 2000.
Also, even though Coughlin is a high volume dealer, you may have a few orders in front of you, meaning you will have to wait a few weeks for a Z51 to get picked up. They are still constrained at only 50% of orders.

If you are at 2000 your dealer can tell you your "estimated TPW". When they get the allocation they have a rough estimate (mine was dead accurate for about 3 weeks out) of when the car should be built.
The factory ordering system can pause allocations to make up for shortages of parts, or time due to plant closings. After the Christmas break last year they didn't accept any new allocation assignments until the middle of January. Later this year the factory has a few shutdown days as well.

Try this link http://www.corvetteconti.com/blog/?p=19219 That's Rick's page where you can follow your order. He usually updates it once a day during the week. I see your from IL so if your name is Larry there is six people ahead of you.

No orders picked up at all? nationwide? Wow, now I understand a little more. I called My dealer last Friday because I know allocations usually come out like every other Thursday and I asked him if my order got picked up. He was FUMING. Kept talking about how GM can't get its S--t together and how those people are NEVER going to meet their Corvette production goal for 2014, etc, etc, etc. This guy is usually very laid back. Now I do understand a little more....

On another online forum, the weekly allocation report, which one of their members who's a dealer tries to post whenever they come out, said "no allocations allowed this week."
The rumour is that most of that week (TPW 4/21) will be taken up with test and pilot 2015 cars. This is also when the rest of GM will be in a two week shutdown due to excess inventory.
Seems the factory can't meet demand. A backlog of orders has clogged the system. GM has produced over 20,000 units with four months till the scheduled 2015 model year production starts. Will the 2014 model year be extended again?

you'll have much problem with Rick he is very good at getting customers cars delivered in a timely matter.

Are you sure they have already arrived at 20,000 orders? Because if I remember correctly, 20,000 was the actual goal for the entire 2014 model year. If true, would they in fact extend, or are the last few thousand orders basically out of luck?
The short answer is no - August 8th is the last day a 2014 C7 will start down the line.
If things hold, 2014 production will top 30,000 units - about 50% more than forecast by Chevy. The factory is running at capacity for one 2 hour overtime shift 6 days a week - the factory isn't set up to run two shifts, and GM won't spend the money to upgrade the factory knowing it likely (based on history) sell more than 30,000/yr C7's after 2014.

If current orders run past The August 8th model year change over how is GM going to proceed? Cancel orders? This car is a home run plus for Chevrolet, I don't think the company will jepardize success.
