Default DD driver question

Just curious...

I've read quite a few threads about some of you new C7 owners using your new C7 as a DD. I've also read some of you having other rides to use as DD and just bring out the C7 to play now and then.

Just curious as I am really considering a C7 (former C5 and C6 owner here) as soon as I can save up enough nickels and dimes.

How many miles would you DD owners say you put on your shiny new C7 weekly (or monthly)?

I'm just curious as my current daily work commute is anywhere between 60 and 80 miles (depending on where I go for lunch) and it seems (at least to me) like a lot of miles to put on a "Vette" on a yearly basis.

Anyone?

The business I own in on my property so I don't commute and haven't for 10+ years.

Bought my C6 in 2008 with 18K miles on it. Sold it last November with 83K miles on it.

My C7 will see similar usage......

Personally would not use as a DD with that many work miles.

Higher gas usage.
Depreciate faster with more usage and miles.
More miles = higher insurance.
Can you park it where it's reasonably safe.
Would you be comfortable in a work car with limited interior room and
limited trunk space.

I live in Southern California with endless stop and go traffic probably not the place to drive a Corvette every day. If i lived in the country it might be a different story.

I average about 1000 miles per month. Also autocross it on weekends.
I have another car, but I don't want to drive anything but the vette.
Love this car.

At 60 miles and 220 work days per year, you are talking 13,000 miles a year, not excessive at all unless you want a garage queen. The gas mileage of the car is quite good and the insurance costs are not any higher than other cars of a similar price.

It's your choice, but DD use won't hurt your car.

I've had mine for 6 months today...have over 11,700 miles, avg.'s out to 1,950/month; daily commute distance in Houston city driving approx. 70-80 miles. I enjoy driving it every minute I'm in it! And for the guy or gal that gets it after me...they'll just have to know how to put it back together!

Why not have some major fun on your way to work and home! Eye candy, power, sound, fury, beats the heck out of a hybrid! We tour in ours, the C7 is by far the best riding Corvette ever built.

Default My fun car

No right answer, but for me I drive the Vette mostly on weekends and the nice days during the week when I work at the office that has the good parking and use my BMW X5 as the daily driver. I like keeping it mint and using as a toy. For me it seems to make getting it out extra special.

People buy $60,000 pick-up trucks, use them for every day vehicles.

I think it's all a matter of personal style and driver preference.

I would say if you have a 60-80 mile commute everyday, all the more reason to drive the vette. It's an enjoyable machine. It will enrich your life. That is, if driving a comfortable high-performance vehicle is your thing.

We've all got to spend our money on something, why not spend on something you spend a lot of your day in?

When it wears out in a couple hundred thousand miles, buy another one.

Agreed. If I am going to be stuck commuting 30 minutes each way every day, I want to be doing it in a car that is fun to drive.

I actually live in Houston so I'm used to the "stop and go" traffic. I used to make this trip in my C6 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sucked when I traded it in with a high ODO reading for my pickup truck. And going from a 5.7L pickup truck getting around 14mpg, the vette would actually be a positive. I was just wondering what kind of monthly numbers you fellas were putting on your cars. Thanks for the input though redshift. :-)

Thanks Magister. 1000 monthly seems like a good number. :-)

Almost 2000 a month!! You must drive from one end of town to the other. I drive from Katy to Willowbrook and back down hwy6. If I get the C7, may just hop on the beltway.

True. Can always bump up to the C8 when the time comes.

man I wrote a whole big post in here last night then my internet connection dropped and it didn't post lmao.

I am totally gonna daily drive mine... if you get a fully loaded diesel pickup truck your spending over 70k.

I am not a fan of paying for something to have it sit in the garage... I already have 1 z06 doing that lol

depending on where my next job is in location to my house I may be buying my moms c300 AWD from her to use but still will probably only use that when its snowy/crappy out in the winter.

I'll be using my C7 as a daily driver - roughly 50 miles per day. Did so with my C6 and I'm closing in on 100,000 miles. My real enjoyment in having a car like this is driving it, and that includes making my commute as pleasurable as possible. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Using the C6 as a car not a church. We were just short of 70K miles on our C6 when we got the C7. Most with the top down.

I drive mine daily. Sun, snow, and rain! I work very hard to own nice things, and it's a joy in my life to drive the C7 everyday. It's improved my quality of life as the interior is advanced and Very comfortable, and it helps motivate me to get up so early in the morning. Car is VERY reliable, and believe it or not, awesome on gas. 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty has my back if any issues arise.

DRIVE THE F**King CAR, it was designed to be a GT, and believe me, she delivers!
