The Stingray senses the road you're on and shows the speed limit sign.
This readout is one of the functions you can select on the central display as you all know.
So my question is: This seems like a service that somebody needs to pay for. It's coming out of the sky somehow and nothing in this world is free. Is it part of the XM radio extra bundle package? Do I have it because I have nav? Anyone know? My dealership just gave me a blank look.
Thanks for the above info. So if you don't have nav you don't have this, right everyone? And it's not a recurring cost over time? From the above replies, this seems to be the case.
That pesky manual, seems to have a lot info in there......lol
Thanks, guys, I actually skimmed the manual looking for my answer but to no avail. I keep telling myself I'm going to study it, but find myself drawn to reading this forum...all the posts about everything ... a lot more entertaining!

Not the GMs fault since it's someone else's data but I noticed on my drive back from the museum that in many places the data is out of date, much of Texas has higher speed limits than the car shows.
Be aware! That number is not always right, in fact quite frequently wrong. It does not, of course, reflect construction zones and, quite frequently there is no display (--) on some secondary and tertiary roads. In general, I find it to give somewhat of a false sense of security in my neck of the woods. We have an inordinate number of small town speed traps in our part of the country, and the absurdly low speed limits in the center of these little hamlets that only last for a block or two don't get reflected. In general, I rarely use it unless on the interstate, and then you rarely need it.
OTOH, the same feature on cars in Germany reflects the constantly changing speed limits on the urban autobahns with deadly accuracy (especially good at indicating when there is NO SPEED LIMIT) and it is a very useful feature, what with all the speed cameras over there. It also felt more responsive and accurate on the secondary roads than here. Also, the Germans really do adhere to their speed limits (which are generally fairly liberal) much better than we do.
It just seems that over here, the database is not quite as "up to snuff".

I remember on a 1970 Buick Skylark I had it had an indicator on the speedometer that you could set at a certain speed and if you exceeded it, it would make a buzzing noise. Kind of reminds me of that.
