Default Automatic seat return issues

I think that this has been discussed before. I have my seat programed to automatically retract upon shutting engine off and opening the door. So far, fine. When I open the door the seat goes forward to my driving position before I can get in the car. How do I fix this?

There are choices in Menu settings for my A6 to move seat at door opening or when you start the car. Sounds like you should change it to when you start the car.

Sounds like you have the M7. Turn off the auto. When you get in, push the #1 (or 2) button and hold it. Your seat will then assume the position for you to drive. The A6 works perfectly, the M7 sucks.

Yup, I have the 7 speed. I did have the automatic feature turned off but it was a pain to find and press the exit button each time I got out. I did get in easily and then I pressed #1 for driving position. Sounds like the GM engineers don't have everything quite figured out yet. At least it's not me screwing up the commands.

There is easy exit and then there is seat memory recall

These are 2 different issues/functions and they are unrelated to each other.

If you have the M7 as I do, you can use easy exit - no problem.

But forget about auto memory recall upon reentry, and just push the door button (1 or 2) when you get back in, as the other post recommended.

It's that simple.

If you have the 7-speed it is something you have to get used to. I had the thought today, if I ever needed to make a quick getaway, for one reason or another in the C7, I am toast. Between holding the memory button down until seat position is set, latching the seat belt, releasing the parking brake, pressing the start button, shifting into gear, it takes quite a while to get rolling. When you are making a number of errands it gets annoying, but what a fabulous ride once you do start to move.

It still blows chunks. One feature I liked in my C6 and they go to this BS. Some genius engineer needs his head slapped.

I have noticed in our A6 that if you just tap the start button and turn the car on without starting the seat will move into recall position. Maybe this would work in the M7

Perfect. That solves my problem. Still, it seems like we all would agree that a better program sequence for seat recall would be nice.

Auto Recall OFF and Easy Exit ON. Then live what all of us do with a manual trans, you must hold the recall button in. If you want to save some time, pull the seat belt over and buckle with your right hand while you hold the recall button button with a finger on your left hand!

Or if your legs are long enough, which fortunately mine are, start the car prior to pushing the memory recall button and you don't have to hold it in - just a quick press will do the trick.

AW It's not THAT SIMPLE!!!

In the M7 what happens and you all know this....... is everything works when leaving the car. The seat and steering wheel go into exit mode.

BUT when you open the door the seat and steering wheel return to drive mode BEFORE you get you butt into the car. Now you can stand there and hit the exit button before you get in and then hit the 1 or 2 button when you sit down but this is CRAZY!!!

Not the way other GM cars work nor the C6 or C5. If a 2000 C5 worked perfect, did not need to hit any buttons and had 3 driver settings........ why can't a C7????

I had all the software upgrades done a week or so ago and hoped that would be the cure but not!!!

As far as the post on the quick get away above.......... you don't need to release the parking brake........ just drive away it releases automatically.

Or, if you're tall enough (like me) to reach the clutch with the seat in the easy exit position you can start the car and just one-touch the #1 or #2 button and not have to hold it.

Edit: Missed this, but

Read the posts. It is simple, turn Auto Recall OFF NOT ON! As noted if your legs are not long enough to start the car in the Exit postion, you'll have to hold the button in!
