Can NAV be added?
But, I was impressed with the new nav compared to the nearly worthless C6 nav. Actually, I had to admit to her how I liked her Impala. Leap forward from her 2010 Impala!! We always had a hand held garmin in the C6 to do REAL routing. IMHO
Do what Chrysler does and let the dealer turn the NAV on for 500.00 if you have an 8.4 equipped car or truck. NAV is a 500.00 option new also, by buying it from the factory you get FM HD and a year of traffic/weather.
Like many I buy cars off the lot, and sometimes they have NAV and sometimes not, be a nice option to have so people can easily add it if they want.
I have used the Onstar turn by turn a few times on this car, you can just call them for directions, upload them to the car with a smartphone or from a PC. While not as nice as a real NAV unit it gets the job done, I think it shows the turns in the HUD, dont remember

For 700 or so for three years its may not be a bad option for non NAV cars, plus you get the other onstar stuff for 3 years. I know a lot of people hate onstar but its an alternative I guess.
For me a Garmin stuffed in the cubby for when I need it plus a smart phone works.
The Chrysler deal is nice, its a 10 minute software unlock at the dealer. If all the GM cars/trucks that use 8" mylink had all the hardware needed installed for just a simple software NAV unlock the real cost would be next to nothing for the added hardware. Then the first second or third owner could pay for the NAV if they wanted it, its a nice revenue generator that doesnt end at the new car sale for GM.
Most likely it will happen in the next couple years with GM.
Since I dont have a parts catalog I cant say for sure but my guess would be if all the other 2014 mylink GM cars/trucks needs hardware so will a corvette. What would be the point of delaying it if all it needed was software, going to be into 2015s soon.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Plus where I drive my car I see no need for NAV I know all the roads.

3-4 times a year did not justify that expense for me...or the expensive map updates that you guys will be sucked into paying down the road....Enjoy your "Factory" systems....

All kidding aside, you shared your solution, which was a fair one given my original post. But you put your solution out there so you had to know it wasn't going to fly with everyone.
If you are happy with it, thats all that matters. Its your castle!

I visited Tokyo on business almost 20 years ago, and I'd love to see a picture of your C7 in Japan.
Here in the states, 3LT comes with NAV Standard, but they may be building them differently for the Japanese / overseas market. I'm curious, could you chose the transmission? If not what is it?

There are only a few hundred Vettes in the whole country. We pre-ordered in August, and my C7 was delivered a month ago---the first C7 in Japan. About 20 were pre-ordered for the whole country. A Z51 runs about $110K, the base model about $100K (thats full price with tax/delivery, etc). They never made a right-hand drive Vette, so driving it here is a bit strange at first.
Yes, the nav works thru the head unit. The Panasonic unit uses the existing infotainment screen in the Vette, not replacing it with a Panasonic screen.
We could choose Z51 (yes/no), transmission (although in Japan you need a different license for a manual), interior/exterior/caliper colors, seat type, wheel type, roof type but not other options. There was just one level of options which seems to be 3LT without Nav. Then, the Nav was available as an add-on here in Japan by GM Japan which is also what they do with the Cadillacs here. For some reason, the GM nav doesn't work in Japan. In fact, the Nav was an after-thought by GM Japan, not offered when I first ordered then the called me about 6 weeks before delivery and asked if I wanted a Nav system.
I have a picture of it on another page in the forum called "International C7".

I checked it out. Beautiful car! I have almost the identical car but with the black rims. Absolutely love this car! Congrats on being the first in Japan. That is cool for sure.
