I am curious how many of you are going to order the Performance Data Recorder option in 2015. Is it good value for the money or are they better alternatives ?
It's part of the navigation package as I understand. Not sure if that will raise the price of the package though. I have a 2014 C7 but I would pass on it if I got a 2015.

It will be available as an option on the 1Lt and 2Lt package. It will be included in the 3 Lt package with an adjusted price.

I read somewhere that the data recorded would be backwards compatible with the 2014. You would just need to go buy and get it installed. Supposedly the hookups are already there.

If I was ordering a 15 I would definitely get it, from what we were told at the Bash it is a very good system very close to the Race Pak system I ran in my track car.

I was told it would be a est. $1,200 price bump and would become standard on the 3LT.

Where does all that performance data go? Maybe through Chevy to your insurance company? Big brother?

That would be great if it turns out to be true. The PDR adds an additional camera; frontwards pointing.
In one of the bash seminars somebody asked if PDR could be retrofitted. The answer was that it would be quite an involved process.
With around 80% of 2014 Stingrays equipped with nav it's safe to assume that most 2015s will be equipped with nav/PDR. For many of those owners the camera will only be used to record street driving.
Unless they are track enthusiasts, most of the super thrifties would never spend another $ 1200 on a PDR. If it's included with nav in the 3LT with 1200 upcharge, expect a lot of that crowd to only gp with the 2LT, on the outside chance they were considering the 3LT.
IMO the only need for this would be if you are going to track the car and don't want to deal with using something like Harry's Lap Timer, GoPro, Vbox, etc. and the tie ins to the car's OBD for vehicle data (gear, speed, brakes, etc.). Otherwise, why spend the money to have something that is geared for the track "just to have it".
Would you put a Vbox/Aim/etc. and GoPro in your car to drive around with on a regular basis? If the answer is "no", why get the PDR.

I'm planning a 2-week road trip from Calgary, through the States, to Windsor and back. With a handful of 32GB cards I can record the entire trip from the moment I leave until I get back. Then they're output to my computer, spliced together and burned to bluray, and then played on the home theatre at Christmas instead of a fake fireplace.
I was hoping for the same thing as the mirror has the window housing for it. However ........
I just got back from the bash and have bad news. On Saturday morning I went to the 8AM C7 owners meeting for questions & answers with the folks and engineers from Flint MI and the BG assy plant and asked that very question. The resounding answer was it would cost less for me to trade for the same model as a 2015 with the PDA option then it would be to install the same system now.
But I am hoping that an aftermarket firm will get it figured out and offer a similar system (mounted in the mirror) for equal or less money.

) about a year ago for my Silverado. It's been reliable and the recording loops when the memory card is full. I used it on a trip from Maryland to Florida earlier this year with a 32 gigabyte card which captured the entire round trip with a GPS track log. I'll probably buy a second one for our C7.

Technology today, it boggles the mind. I can't wait to relive the speeding tickets. "But officer, did I really do something so wrong?"
But as a $1,200+ price bump on the 2LT, it would also include Navigation or is that separate?
It's separate from NAV but NAV is required for PDR, according to reports from the bash. So, if you opt for a 1 or 2LT you shell out $795 for NAV then $1200 for PDR. or looked at another way, if you don't want NAV, PDR is a $2000 option. It's reported to be part of the new 3LT package but expect that package to increase in price by at least $1200.
