Default Can someone explain this?

I've seen some C7s in YouTube videos (usually at the dragstrip) looking like police cars with their rear tail lights flashing, and
said, "how did they do that"? Well, I just reviewed some security footage from my house showing me going up the street (in 1st gear), with MY tail lights blinking like a cop car. How did this happen???

Has to do with controlling the duty cycle of the LEDs to control the brightness (difference between tail lights and brake lights). This is done by pulsing the voltage applied and varying the amount of duration of those pulses

Video cameras pick up on this pulsing

Actually the LEDs do not glow continually, like a filament build. They use pulse width modulation, and turn on and off at high frequency. But the on/off cycle is so fast that it looks like it's lit continually. As the above poster pointed out, the video frame rate catches the LEDs in on/off cycles making them appear to flash.

Has no one noticed the 666 in the OP's sig? Isn't it obvious?
He has demons in his taillights. Makes them flash like the flames of hell.
Fancy, smancy engineering explanations.

OK, I've got a petroleum engineering degree, 12 civil engineering licenses, and work as a software engineer. Yeah, the led video thing is right. But my hounds of hell explanation sounded better, right?

Same thing that makes movies (which are really a series of still shots) seem to move

dont know if this is what youre asking, but i believe from some courses i took, that you put a capacitor in your circuit. these devices store energy up to a specified amount, then discharge, sending essentially a stream of electrons to the light and causing it to ignite. someone please correct me if im wrong.

PWM is done with integrated circuits. Here is a sample article. Many others available.
